Thanks everyone!

For Hong Kong: Booked YMCA/Salisbury
For Tokyo: booked K's House Hostel

I will bring some shorts and jeans and play it by year, I also have a light rain jacket and a compact umbrella. I usually walk around with a small backpack away.

Can anyone recommend a really awesome/must-see high-rise or roof-top bar/patio to go for a drink? Something with a great view in Tokyo and Hong Kong? I heard New York bar in Tokyo is great.

I enjoyed the view from the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo -- but be prepared to pay a a chunk of change for a drink! Maybe others who know Tokyo better have other suggestions....

For baseball games in Tokyo (Giants), do you need to buy tickets in advance or can you buy them at the door? What is the best way to buy tickets?

hi bizkitgto, i really enjoyed baseball at the Jingu stadium. Very easy access to it. It's home to the Tokyo Yakult Swallows however sometimes they play against the Giants there too

I don't know if tickets are needed in advance however i did book and pay for the tickets i wanted online before i left for Japan.
It didn't cost more than at the door, and requires a simple pick up of booked tickets at the stadium.
If this interests you here is the website for scheduled games and purchase of tickets; You can select to sit with the Giants fans

For a rooftop bar in Tokyo with an amazing view, you can go to the Park Hyatt Tokyo (I think that's the New York bar you reference). The rooftop bar we went to in Hong Kong, on Hong Kong Island, was Sevva. You're literally on top of the light show, so it's a different experience.

If you can swing it - even for a night - the harbor view rooms from the Salisbury afford you a great view of the harbor light show. If not, you can view it from the promenade.

Most likely it will be very hot and humid in Tokyo, it was for me last year end of September.
Don't bring jeans much too hot, khakis are much cooler. Longer style shorts are fine, short shorts NO. Enjoy your trip.

I use this site for the game schedule: http://japanball.com/baseball/

I've only ever bought tickets at the stadium on the day of the game.

You want to sit in the outfield, in right field with the home team fanatics.

There are two domed stadiums in Tokyo where the games won't get rained out.

Ditto, we booked one of these, and the living room had a sofa with sweeping curved window out across the harbour. We bought drinks and snacks home and enjoyed the show from our room, though it does mean you can't hear the music, that didn't bother me.

Have you done any research at all in preparation for this trip? None of us know you, none of us know what you would enjoy. Get yourself a good guidebook for each city and choose what you want to do/see/experience.

People here can be very helpful answering questions once you know what you want. We can't help you decide what you want.

Horse racing at Happy Valley on a Wednesday night. It is on HK island. Take the double decker bus to get to the track from the ferry. Bring your passport so that you can get into the member's area.

There is daytime racing on the weekend at Sha Tin. This would involve a train ride from Kowloon and there is a station at the track.

If you had to choose between the two then I would easily recommend Happy Valley.
