Yes, of course. It's the best way to get around downtown Bangkok.

unless you like getting ripped off by tuk tuks and and hasled by taxi drivers .. go for it but unfortunatly dosn't cover that much of the city....<BR><BR>I don't know who long your staying for but they do have tourist passes...

Come on - it's all relative - getting "ripped off" and having to pay a quid or so for a journey is really not that bad. Plus - tuk tuks are fun!<BR><BR>But, if you want it a bit more sedate, then the sky train is definitely to be recommended - never crowded and it's airconditioned so can be a welcome break from the heat

One ride in a tuk-tuk is fun. After that, it's just a matter of how much exhaust fumes you can tolerate.

I'm a big fan of the Sky Train. It was fabulous !<BR><BR>Uncrowded and airconditioned. Useful to a degree. As mentioned above, it doesn't cover the whole city, however, it's the best way of covering long distances if it's going your way.<BR><BR>You must try a tuk tuk ride also, if only the once, just for the experience.<BR><BR>As May said, don't worry about the scams, even if they do insist on taking you to a gem shop in Chinatown first before your destination. Hi Tom,<BR> The Skytrain is simply the best and I echo Colin's and May's comments about the Tuk-Tuks. You just have to try it as well.<BR>There are four main routes that all meet up at Siam Square. The northern route will take you as far as Mo Chit N8 station if the the famous Chatuchak weekend market is of interest. The west route has numerous stops along Sukhumvit Road and it's many great eating places.<BR>The southern route from Siam goes further Downtown via Silom Road as far as the Sapthan Taksin (Taksin Bridge) on the Chao Phraya River.<BR> From there you can use the river Express Boats to get to Chinatown area's and Royal Palace etc much quicker than taxi's/buses,<BR>Look up www.sawadee.com you will find excellent details, costs,passes, route maps etc, about both the BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) and the Express Boat routes.<BR>http://www.thingsasian.com/goto_arti...icle.1511.html also has very informative info ref Skytrain.<BR><BR>You should also read Colin Owen's journal.
