Singapore: Moderate Hotels

Suggestions for a three night stay in late may or Jun: near a subway, between US$120-150, gym, pool and tropical feel nice, but overly important, foodcourts nearby.

Am I asking for too much at that price?

Royal Plaza on Scotts has just been completely redone and is getting great reviews.

Swisshotel the Stamford might be nice.

The Pan Pacific gets some nice reviews.

The Shangri-la may have the most tropical feel...but is over your budget (but not by much) and is a distance from the MRT, but nothing a walk or taxi ride can't solve.

We found an excellent rate for the Four Seasons for part of our stay on www.asiabesthotel.com and booked another part of stay directly with Four Seasons (weekend rate was very good for this coming August some months ago, but for bookings now, it's S$120 more per night...glad we booked well in advance).

It's worth checking booking sites and directly for rates. Asiabesthotel is a Singapore based inbound tour company that is reputable, and I found booking with them quick and easy, and my special requests were all passed on to the Four Seasons accurately (I checked when I linked my reservations).

You can't do better in terms of location than the Swisshotel The Stamford. You're atop an MRT station - enter the subway without going outside. You're across the street from Raffles and a block from Cjimes. It's just above your price range according to teh website, but teh price includes breakfast (and tax, I believe).

Sorry, should have read: tropical feel nice, but NOT overly important, food courts nearby.

Thanks for the inputs.

This place: http://www.theinn.com.sg/ has deluxe rooms below your price, no pool or gym but very close to the subway in Chinatown. I loved it when I stayed there a few years back.

The food at the hawker centers are better than those at food courts. Problem is that there is no air conditioning.
