Siem Reap - Recommendation for Guide

I had just spent a few days in Thailand (Phuket & BKK) and Cambodia (Siem Reap) and must confess I had some of the best time in my life and priceless experiences in both countries. I think what made it especially great, was one of the guys at the B&B that I stayed at in Siem Reap. He is actually a FT Tour Guide as well. I had helped him post his info on here but it seems like that people mistook it as a commercial advertisement or so. Therefore I want to post his info as a recommendation to everyone who has not set up anything yet in Siem Reap. I also stayed at a great B&B which I can highly recommend as well.
here are some links:
My personal Profile page with 800+ pics from Thailand and Siem Reap/Angkor as well as all my travel diaries is http://boswild29.hi5.com

Soeu (my Tour Guide's Info):
He is a licensed tour guide for Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor.
Please feel free to email him when you are planing your vacation to Cambodia. He'd be glad to give you info or show you around.

His email address is [email protected] and his phone number is
+855 12 668 812

He also has a hi5 profile: http://soeu2004.hi5.com

Please also take a look at my travel diary, which describes what I did in Siem Reap pretty much on a daily basis.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] and I can maybe give you some tips and hints as well.
Before I forget, I stayed at the Villa Siem Reap (rented a whole bungalow for only $45), and their webpage is www.thevillasiemreap.com

Andreas-
Thank you for sharing your travel journal. I really enjoyed reading it, especially the parts about your night out with the locals in Bangkok, your haircut in Siem Reap, and your time with your Tuk Tuk driver in Siem Reap.

Thanks for the photos. I really enjoyed reading about your time in SR. We are going there in Feb and are staying at Villa SR. Maybe we will meet Soeu. Unfortunately we have already booked a driver with Villa SR. I have only read good things about their drivers so I am sure it will be good.

Skittle, Tim and Liz, thanks for reading my page and looking at the pics. Am glad you all enjoyed it. I just talked to Soeu this morning. Since I will be back in Thailand in end of February until mid march, he asked if I would like to go to his family's house in eastern Cambodia, near the border with Vietnam. I am sure it would be quite the experience!
So Skittle, you will be staying at the Villa SR? That's great! I really liked that place, so much better than any of the hotels I could have chosen in SR! Soeu I am sure will be there too. Just say hi and that we conversed on fodors

thanks AMueller for your post... though other replies seem to be confusing a tuk-tuk driver w/ a licensed guide...

For the record: in Siem Reap licensed guides cannot be drivers. One hires a licensed guide $25--$30 US per day plus a driver car $25 or van $30--$50 US depending upon if you book directly or go through a hotel or tour company that will hike the rates.

Tong in BKK is a licensed guide & she is allowed to drive. Drivers in BKK can't take you inside the temples, only licensed guides can.

A licensed guide in Cambodia has gone through higher education in a foreign language, Khmer culture & history and then passes a test... a driver does not.

This is not to say that there aren't great drivers who speak English well, but if you want a licensed guide be aware that you will also have to pay for a driver (who will stay with the car & your belongings) while the guide takes you to the temple.

Two good licensed English-speaking guides in REP are:
John Teng at
[email protected]
www.angkorservice.com
OR
Ly Heang
www.starangkortours.com
[email protected]

and of course Ponheary... and the one that I am using Tek Leng... whose email address I can post should anyone want it. Tek does not have a website.
