Shopping malls in Bangkok

I am in Bangkok for a day before heading to Phuket and want to do some shopping, for a few important and necessary things.

Toys - birthday gifts for me 8 and 5 year olds, any toysrus there?

I am a plus size and looking for some casual clothes, shorts and t-s.

There's a "Toys R Us" at the Central World mall. There's also a covered walkway that connect Central World to Paragon where you can find toys at the department store there. The two malls are own by competing department store chain so you'll probably find different type of toys at each place.

Plus sizes are available at the factory outlets shops which can found inside most malls. I'm not sure if the two malls I've mentioned have these type of stores as they cater to more upscale shops.

For plus sizes, I think you'll need to hit MBK Center, just down the street from Siam Paragon.

I think your best bet for plus sizes would be in a department store. There are two at the Central World Plaza mall that might be good. Also, the Central Department store at the ChitLom skytrain station would be a good choice. Robinsons department stores don't quite have the selection in clothing in larger sizes. MBK, mentioned above, is a Thai mall with predominantly small sizes, and L and XL are NOT very large...

Good luck with finding plus sizes.

Probably Central Department store at Chitlom skytrain station. The problem as with much ready-made clothing in Thailand is not just the size, but that the proportions/cut are totally off for many westerners....waist length on blouses is too short, sleeves are too short, bust-size is too small, items don't fit in the shoulders....etc...etc...so that's why a lot of us have our clothes custom made in BK. It's too bad you won't have more time there. Good luck. Happy Travels!

Actually, as a 'plus-sized' man, I find MBK the best place in that area for casual clothes. There are three shops on the lower floors selling over-stocked US brands (Izod, Eddie Bauer, etc.) at cheap prices. For really cheap no-name stuff, there is the 6th floor, where there are some shops selling stuff so big it would make me look like a two year old trying on daddy's shirt.

I find the department stores spotty at best. There's a few Arrow 'big & tall' shops, but the rest don't carry large sizes.

MBK Center is a large shopping mall - in places more like an indoor market - in Bangkok's main shopping district.

It's across the street from Siam Square, and catty-corner to Siam Discovery, which is next to Siam Center, which is next to Siam Paragon. Central World is a little further down the street.

You can take the Skytrain to the National Stadium station, and a bridge connects the station to the mall.

You can find a map of the shopping disctrict at this page: http://thailandforvisitors.com/centr.../shopping.html
