Shanghai Taxis

I am leaving for Shanghai in November. I think I got this from a post from Ekscrunchy or Shanghainese so search their posts for more detail. "If you have a choice, stay away from the dark blue and dark red ones. They are not very well maintained."

The Shanghai taxi rate is slightly higher from about 11pm to 5am so 630am would be normal rates.
The dark blue taxis are not preferred because they're not as well controlled due to being part of an alliance of taxi companies as opposed to being owned by a big company. Most taxi scams happen with the dark blue and burgundy/maroon taxis.
I don't know if all hotels do this, but the nicer ones only allow particular colored taxis to pick up there - even if a different color taxi just dropped someone off at the hotel. For example, and if I recall correctly, the Portman Ritz Carlton/Shanghai Center only allows turquoise (Dahzhong) taxis.
