Dina: Yes--I stayed at Le Meridien in Shanghai again and liked it equally well, although the breakfast buffet has decreased somewhat in scope since my last visit three years ago. I know you had no time to swim, but the indoor pool is truly excellent! But not up to the level of the St. Regis, by any means! Good job on the report!

Glad my report was helpful.
Still happy to answer any questions you might have.
Overall, our time in each place was way too short. We especially felt shortchanged in Beijing. There was so much we didn't get to see and do. We enjoyed all of our activities and all the food. We found the people that we met extraordinarily friendly and hospitable. I really hope someday we have the opportunity to go back!

AG: It is comforting that at least one other person here understands my obsession with swimming. And the best thing about swimming in those indoor hotel pools is that I am often the only one in the pool. I guess this must be like a skiier being alone on a black diamond slope......(??)
Dina: Thanks so much! I hope we both have a chance to return!

I'm a hotel pool swimmer too , and it really is lovely to have it all to oneself, isn't it. Was it you who described the Peninsular pool in Bangkok, ek? I've enjoyed the outdoor one between the towers of the Twin Towers in Bangkok by moonlight - wonderful!

Oh, my! Where is this pool in Bangkok? Can you imagine that at the Four Seasons Bangkok you can swim at any time of night? I wish I were in that pool right now instead of on my way to the less-appealing NYC Parks Department pool near me!

It's right at the end of the freeway, not far from the main railway station, which makes it very easy to get to in a regular taxi from the airport. European groups seem to stay there. I've been there twice, and both times it's been less than $100A, with quite a nice breakfast. Closest Skytrain is Stadium, perhaps 5-10minute walk, or a quick tuktuk ride.
I think they did shut the pool around 10pm though - it's just that no-one used it, that I had the moonlight swims. At the end of the pool, in a separate swim-to area, there are tiled "beds" with massaging water jets that are a bit unusual.
