Susan -- Thank you for your offer to book a restaurant for the GTG and prepare an activity proposal for after dinner.
We have asked nagiffag to pick the venue, and after the dinner there will not be further group activity. Please note not all Fodorites are comfortable for posting their real names and e-mail addresses here so all communication for the GTG arrangements will be conducted on this thread.
If your schedule allows, please attend the GTG on 11/2.
kuranosuke -- if you come, we can go have chicken paws together!

Sorry for the delay. Just got back today from a trip to North Korea. Our 6 month old is thought to be the youngest American to visit since the war. She was mobbed everywhere we went! Interesting trip. Supposedly we got more access than is normal. We'll tell you about it at the GTG, if you're interested.
How about 7pm on Friday, Nov 2, at Lost Heaven (Yunnan Folk Cuisine)? 38 Gao You Lu near Fuxing Xi Lu. Phone 6433-5126. Here are reviews and a map.

I have an Enjoy card that will give us a discount too. If you want different time or type of cuisine pls tell me and I (or Susan) can make another suggestion. Susan, also feel free to propose and organize the after dinner activity you mentioned.
How many are we? Me=2, Nutella=1, Shanghainese=1? Chinatourguide/Susan? Anyone else?

nagiffag -- Have you been up all night? Thanks very much for a great choice, I haven't been there before so really looking forward to a wonderful treat. And I can't wait to hear about your N. Korea trip, didn't realize your baby girl is only 6 months old, starting young as the next generation of Fodorites!
It'll be myself for now. naumannsara is going to Tokyo unless her plans change.
Nutella -- Please ask your hotel desk to write down the chinese name and address of Lost Heaven restaurant so you can give it to the cab driver, it is on the west side of the old french concession, very nice area.

Nutella, you can also go to the link in my last post and you'll see a link for a Taxi printout. It says "Print this and show it to the taxi driver, and you will hopefully arrive at Lost Heaven - Yunnan Folk Cuisine" Funny how they put the word "hopefully" in there.

I like the taxi printout, it's smart to add some simple chinese phrases for practice while "hopefully" the taxi will arrive at Lost Heaven. The chinese name is interesting as "Flower Horse Heaven", is it a reference to the tea horses in Yunan? My mother's home is 2 blocks away on Huashan Road and my father used to work on Gao You Lu.

nagifagg -- Small world indeed! Love that area, our family have lived around there for 70 years starting on Hengshan Lu (in the house adjacent to the church), then Anfu Lu and Changle Lu (the house is now a consulate), my mom refuses to move away. I started in schools on Hengshan Lu and Huashan Lu, and my DD went to kindergarten on Wuyuan Lu, I'm getting nostalgic here.
DM says 70 years ago Gaoyou Lu was almost rural with farmers growing corn, bok choy and pumpkins. She has only one small bedroom so I visit daily, and move around and stay with relatives who have more bedrooms.
So sad about the blind woman, I'll make sure to watch for manholes while walking on Gaoyou Lu!

I have been in Shanghai for 27 hours already, ate lunch at my DM's home and walked with her to the corner of Huashan/Fuxi Lu's, dinner was at Xiao Nan Guo in the Ruijin Hotel compound. Going to a wedding in the countryside Sunday.
