Seoul - Worth A Visit

If we take KAL to Bangkok, is it worthwhile to spend 2 -3 days in Seoul -- recover from jet lag, see some sights -- or should we just continue directly on to BKK. Thoughts anyone?

Quite honestly, I would just continue on to Bangkok. There is so much to see and do in Bangkok and environs that I wouldn't give up 2-3 days for Seoul. This is esp true if you are going to be passing through in the winter or early spring months, which are fairly cold and rainy/snowy. I just don't think Seoul has very much to offer, and certainly not compared to a place like Thailand.

The time difference between Seoul and Bangkok is maybe an hour, so Seoul won't really offer any advantage to recover; if you are tired sit by your hotel pool in Bangkok....

As a resident of Seoul (and it pains me to say this because I really enjoy living here), I have to agree with Cicerone--move on to BKK. Most of the things you'd come to Korea to see are outside Seoul. And while a lot of people come to Seoul to shop, I think BKK provides much more interesting things to purchase.

If you haven't planned to do so already, I would be sure to include a 2-3 day to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

On our return from Hong Kong we have a connection in Seoul from 5am-3pm. Any suggestions on what we could do for 10 hours? We are 2 adults and an 11yr old. Many thanks for your suggestions.

hi, i'm an american expatriate who lives and works in seoul and cicerone and seoulsuzanne mentioned, there is not much to see and do here. case in point, every holiday we leave seoul for other asian countries. regarding debraG's question, for 10 hours, i would go to the insadong area. take the 602-1 bus (about $6 pp each way). there are many shops and restaurants there and very close to 2 palaces/gardens. however, make sure you leave enough time for travel from and to the incheon aiport for it takes at least an hour each way. since your flight out is 3 pm, make sure you're in the bus stop back to incheon not later than 1 pm. dress warm.
