searching for rrkwan.....
hi rrkwan. easytraveler suggested I look for you in the asia forum. Wanted to get a dim sum recommendation from you for Houston. So far I've found Golden Palace or Ocean. Can you recommend either or one better for the weekend?
Thanks!

Either Golden Palace or Ocean Palace is okay, though we go to the latter more. Or you can try Kim Son at the Fountains (Southwest Freeway past Kirkwood).
There is another small restaurant we go quite often called Dim Sum King on Bellaire next to the Welcome supermarket, but it's very crowded on weekends, not comfortable, and you have to order from the sheet, not from a cart.

Probably not too soon. I have dental surgery next week, so I am not that interested in thinking about food right now!
But I think we can think of a date and announce it in advance. I have no immediate travel plans, so should be available all the way till at least Memorial Day.

Hope your surgery isn't too serious and you bounce back quickly!
Even though you didn't ask for it (lol), here is my recipe for a great smoothie.
1 container yogurt
1 equal part fruit juice
1/2 to 1 banana
1 cup frozen fruit (avoid seeded fruits due to surgery)
Blend in blender until smooth. By using frozen fruit, you can avoid having pointy ice chips.

Ocean Palace was really fun and yummy rrkwan. Thanks! We had a really good time. We ordered about 15 different items (we had to learn how to say no to ourselves. we wanted to try everything!) Out of the 15, I didn't like 3 items, and my husband and friend didn't like only 2. We all agreed the shrimp balls and shrimp cakes (both on the expensive list) was tasteless. The other one i didn't like was the tripe - they liked it but I think I just couldn't handle the thought of eating tripe. Other than that, we had alot of favorites. We did dim sum all the way and will definitely be back. I liked this place better than Golden Palace (from what I remember of it). Thanks for the recommendation!

maria - Glad you had a great time. The shrimp ball you mentioned - is that the one that is wrapped like a dumpling and steamed? If so, it's one of the most classic dim sum dishes.
moldy - Thanks for the suggestions. I have gotten yogurt. But I think I'll just get some ice cream. I have not had much lately, and won't mind having ice cream for a day.

hey rrkwan - no, we liked that one. it looked like it was fried nad the cakes were pan fried. We loved all the dumplings - especially the shrimps with the flat wide noodles wrapped around it and served in little strips and had it's own sauce. the shrimp balls and cakes were more of a yellow brown color....loved dim sum altogether though!
