Good to know as I have the same bank. But, I never use my U.S. issued ATM card overseas...just a foreign issued one. Traveler's checks have worked just fine for over three decades and I'll keep using them. Over on the European forum, someone recently posted the same problem, but with a Washington Mutual card. I do not want to chance using my U.S. issued card overseas...like the machine possibly eating it or it just not working...and having to try to straighten it out overseas. I go with TCs,cash, and a credit card or two when I go overseas. Plus, Wells Fargo charges $5.00 per transaction according to a pretty recent article in Budget Travel that listed banks and what they charge for using an ATM overseas. In Thailand, traveler's checks get higher exchange rates than cash...so I tend to take more traveler's checks. Happy Travels!

Guenmai,
If you have it, would you please post the Budget Travel article you reference. I could only find this below on their site (useful for travelers checks), but I don't see a breakdown of fees. Thanks!

I'll have to look for the magazine at home. I don't remember where I put it or I might have torn the page out of the magazine and filed it somewhere. I'll try to post it next week...if I can find it. Happy Travels!

jrruff - Yes, please post a trip report as I will be going to those same places for my holiday at the end of this December! I would love any additional information (especially recent) that you may have to share!

Guenmai,
Please don't go to the trouble. I found this useful link online:

One other note, if you're eligible for navy federal credit union, they are probably the only credit card company that charges no fees for cash advances and they do not tack on an additional amount beyond the 1% visa charges for purchases abroad (currency conversion).
