safe to travel in Assam?

My husband and I have a trip planned thru an agency in Guwahati to spend the first two weeks of April with a driver going to several of the national parks in Assam - Manas, Namieri, Kazaringa, Majuli Island. I have been reading that the US State Department advises against going to Assam and it is getting me very worried. Has anyone been to the area recently? Did it seem safe? Should we cancel? Help!

Imo it should be safe. We haven't heard anything amiss in Assam, apart from an isolated incident when Congress leader Rahul Gandhis cavalcade passing through, was stoned by some miscreants there. Yes, there has been trouble in the neighboring state of Manipur. You may also take the opinion of the agent you are dealing with for this tour.
Happy travels!
