First time I set foot on the island of Ma Wan in at least 25 years. If you've visited HK in the past 12 years, you probably would have crossed over it on the way from the airport to the city. It has a fairly new residential development, a beach, an old village, a nice new park, as well the the Noah's Ark theme park. Kind of a strange mixture of things on the island.

To get there, one can take a ferry from Central or Tsuen Wan; or a shuttle bus from the Tsing Yi, Kwai Fong and Tsuen Wan MTR, or the airport.

Lovely photos - an interesting area. My husband appreciated the name of the eatery (you wrote "strange name for an eatery")- I don't get it still, only if you are chinese can it make sense I think, as its whats in the meaning behind the words.

janev - "五少" is how people in the old days will address the 5th kid in the family if he's a son. For example, my mom and my aunts (my other uncles' wives) still call my 5th uncle (my dad's brother) as 五少. Similarly, my dad is 9th in the family, and they will call him 九少. I thought many in my family will find that photo funny, and in I've sent it to my cousins (the daughters of my uncle #5).

Thanks for sharing the pix. Brings back memories. I thought that meant 'five small ones'. Your interpretation makes more sense.

mohan - The 少 here is short for 少爺, or "young master".
