Am late in catching up. Very relieved to read that you don't do carry on. Have been under this misconception for years.
Want to wish you, karen and the rest of your family a very merry Christmas and a healthy happy 2018.
Much love as well

Tonight we will eat at the thai speciality restaurant here.
The Xmas decorations are lovely here, but somehow I never feel the Christmas spirit in warm locations. And this Christmas Eve is no exception.
Chris and I stayed in our rooms today, while the ladies did yoga in the AM, and spent the afternoon in a cabana by the pool. I am still quite stuffed up, but I did lie on my chaise all day in the room with low a/c while also having the slider fully open to warm fresh air. Chris is better tonight. The hotel just sent him flowers with a get well card signed by many of the staff.
Tomorrow we will have a few presents to exchange but nothing like a normal Christmas at home. We will miss the other part of our family who are in the snow in MA.

More lazy time around the resort.
Girls doing yoga and stretching some mornings, a cooking school tomorrow at the hotel.
having Japanese food tonight.
Glad to be missing all the ice and snow at home.
I still have my head cold, so mope around most of the time.
Food is good here, but not exceptional--- plenty of choices. Breakfasts are exceptional however.
We do love this hotel. Our kids are liking it too. We can't get our granddaughter out of the water. Well, maybe to eat.
We return to Bangkok on Friday and look forward to the fireworks on NY's Eve.

Tonight we were invited to the VIP cocktail reception on the beach. The kids did not want to go but K did so she and I walked over.
There were nice drinks and nibbles and maybe 20 guests. We got to meet the whole senior management team. The new GM, an Aussie, is an interesting guy with tons of experience.
When we decided to sit down on the beach, the chairs were on an angle and I fell onto K, was not able to stand up without lots of help. Amazing what one drink can do.... Embarrased?? Only slightly.
Earlier this PM, Tab, Maddie and Karen participated in a thai cooking school here at the hotel. This was a full on participatory session. They cooked: chicken massaman curry, spicy beef salad and bananas and coconut milk. They loved it. The menu hangers daily.
Our last full day at Khao Lak is tomorrow. We will all be sorry to see it end.

That is a shame that you will not be completing your report. I have enjoyed it and learned from it immensely and was looking forward to reading about your return to Bangkok. You can best believe that we do not share the same politics, I did not agree with your name calling on the other thread, and I decided not to ride elephants after I was educated on the issue. However, I am also convinced that with little in common, if we were ever at the same table for dinner we could talk for hours about where we have been, what we have seen and where we are going next. I was reading your report based on your love and experience in SE Asia not because of your political beliefs or to agree with every choice of activities you make. Additionally, there are probably so many people who were following this trip report who have no idea about your other thread. It is a real shame not to finish it.

Oh, my...I have been gone offline to be with my Father as much as possible in his last painful days and then bury him. Just returned here to my treasured Fodor's Asia Forum where I have learned so much over the past 13 years from so many of you. Your collective generosity of spirit in sharing ideas and experiences has changed my life (and the lives of my family members) in so many very positive ways. I am so grateful and cannot begin to tell you how influential your collective insights and travel recommendations have been.
Was hoping to see how Bob and Karen's adventure was going, whether 65 and 69 had had an inspiring experience, and whether generations 2 and 3 were enjoying the trip as well. I hope that you finish the report, Bob, and stay present here. I look forward to going back and catching up on what you wrote on Phu Quoc, etc., at a time when I was spending too much time at hospitals, rehabs, and so forth to follow along in real time.
Very saddened to find discord here and hoping that we can all find our way back to exuberant exchanges of ideas that poke and prod at each others' assumptions in order to better understand choices made by fellow travelers but don't judge overly harshly on the basis of what we know of each other from online interaction. (Also recognize that what I say in a poignant manner may look and sound rigid after it is posted. Sigh. There sure are drawbacks to this medium.)
As a liberal progressive from blue Massachusetts who shops only under duress and who experiences the 2016 election as severe ongoing trauma, I nevertheless really appreciate connecting with folks here who have very different points of view on life and society.
Wishing everyone a time of peace. Wishing us all more civil online discourse in 2018.
Fond memories of the last Fodor's Boston G2G and wondering about future prospects for a G2G in New England in 2018.
