...and home to Christmas and birthdays. Early holiday and birthday wishes, Bob and Karen.

Meanwhile, keep us informed about your lives in tropical southeast Asian climes while some of us are piling on layers (and even donning N-95 masks). Thanks for the vicarious enjoyment of SEA.

Visit to jewerlers again today to look at some stones---bought... To keep up with my friend Peter, K has treated me to an emerald ring for my 75 th birthday on Jan 9.

Lunch again at Bangkok Baking-- shared a sandwich.
Dinner tonight was a return to L'Opera. K had veal Milanese and I had minestrone soup. Yummy desserts.

We are now at Marriott Courtyard, located behind the old Four Seasons. A newish hotel, it is moderately comfortable with smallish rooms, well designed.. I would not want to spend a week here-- I know I am spoiled. $84.++. There is a club on the 15th floor, small but also comfortable, with a terrace.

Well happy early birthday Bob! We just try to keep up with the Kimball's lol.

What no ravioli at L'Opera? I know you must have had the Mille Fleur for dessert though.

I just read this whole report with pictures and this report is the kind that has missing on this site for a long while now. Thank you for your steadfast effort. Lots of information contained within for future travelers to glean from and that's what this site is all about.

Aloha!

Thanks Peter.

it killed me not to have rav. again, but did have Mille... we love opera and it's staff.

Tuesday

Tried the club breakfast, OK, but very limited and not crowded.

Taxi to River City to pick up K's items--all very nice. Taxi to Jim Thompson main store on Surongwse (sp) for a lite lunch--very colorful--- curry rice and shrimp in a 1/2 pineapple with huge soft raisins and cashews for me and a great phad thai for K. 600+B-- $18.--2 drinks.

Taxi back to hotel K is rearranging and packing for our Sat. flt to Singapore (Singapore Air --30 kilos allowed each--- how do you say over?

Going in neighborhood tonight for dinner--maybe Crepes & Co on the next street.

Tired and ready to go home.

Crepes and Co is on soi 1, Lang Suan Rd, a dingy alleyway, a block over from our hotel. Would never have found it without a taxi. It is sort of in back of American Ambassador's residence. This is a great neighborhood packed with restaurants, shops, condos, and places to stay. The restaurant is small, but cheerful. The menu is packed with goodies, both French, Mediterranean and Moroccan, most served in fresh made crepes. The desserts are mostly crepe inspired.

I had chicken Philippe, a classic since they open on soi 12 many years ago: several pieces of sautéed white chicken, tons of sliced button mushrooms, lots of diced bacon, all in a delicious cream bechemal (sp) sauce-- hugely generous portion. This is accompanied by a mound of orange (saffron) rice with chopped tomatoes. So delicious you can't believe. For dessert I had a banana and Belgiun chocolate crepe. K had a Moroccan plate of sausage and eggplant served in a buckwheat crepe and crepe Suzettes for dessert. A fab meal for $45.

K had organized our stuff and packed our two big cases to be wrapped in plastic at the Bangkok airport, not to be opened until we get home. In Singapore we will live out of Our carryons.

Wednesday

Breakfast upstairs in the club. K is out on the town, alone... I think she has gone to Siam Paragon for shopping and poking around. She may return with sandwiches for us to share.

Trying a new Indian restaurant tonight on soi 11-- new to us.

I have not commented yet on how festive this Buddhist city looks this Christmas season. Like everything Thai, the decorations are over the top and everywhere. Huge brightly lite trees, colored lights, santas, decorations appealing to kids, live trees in groups decorated, hotel lobbies with lights and flowers. It really is amazing.

we are ready to go home and be with our family. Christmas dinner this year, for the entire family, on Dec 22 for the first time at a restaurant to fit in with everyone's busy schedules.

For those of you wondering: yes "the $$ game" is on again this year...

Really delicious dinner at Punjab Grill on soi 13, Sukhumvit, located inside the Raddison Suites Hotel. Lovely interior, warm wooden wall, like a men's club. Excellent food and great service. A tad expensive--$120.
Surprise desserts--involving fire... Very good drinks.

On my list for next year.

Took a tuk tuk (hotel's) thru alleys to Amari plaza. I got a great leg/foot massage, incl. shoulders and head, and K got full body oil massage--800B. $24 total. 2nd floor of mall in right rear corner.
While there I decided to get my hair cut...850B--$26--- hair wash and scalp massage, then haircut, then wash again, then dry by cutter.
By this time it was 2:30 so we headed to the club for tea-- sandwiches and cake.

K has now hit the pool.

We plan on some local restaurant on Lang Suan for dinner.

We had a simple dinner at Hen and Egg on Lang Saun-- pumpkin soup for me and soft shell crab dish for K,... Two pieces of tall four layer cake.

Friday--- last day in Bangkok...

Packing, squeezing and stretching and this year we bought nothing.

Jewerly p/u about 7 and we are ALL done. Nothing else planned for the day.

The Courtyard has proven to be an excellent reasonably priced hotel. Fantastic location, free tuk tuk around limited area, decent budget club--better than any US 4* offers, balcony in club, decent pool-- only ladder in and out, friendly staff, hard bed, nice shower, plenty of hot water...

Van at 8:45AM to airport--999B. $30. Singapore Air to Singapore. Three nights in Singapore at JW Marriott south beach. Van p/u to hotel. S$ 55.

How was Hen & Egg?

Can't go wrong with Crepes & Co. They used to have one in Hua Hin also.

We're trying the Athenee Bangkok & Vagabond in S'pore this month. Might as well take advantage of the merger.

Isn't that hotel located at Sentosa? If so, I wouldn't be happy there either!

No Kathie, but I don't know the section, it is a newish area.

We hate the way this hotel has treated us... everything here seems 2nd class or worse.
