Our dinner at Biku was just fun and delicious... The bldg itself is full of knick nacks all for sale. The service was excellent. Long ride back to hotel because of traffic.
Dinner: meat pie for karen (wonderful crust and tender beef), minestrone soup followed by vegetable korma for me, spaghetti bolanaise for Linda, lamb chops (3) for Peter... Wonderful cakes, etc for desserts.
Sept 30--- huge breakfasts again... Last full day on Bali. Putu came for us at 10. we headed north west to Tanah Lot temple first. This temple is built on a rock just off shore and is very picturesque. waves crashing all around. Very hot walking from parking lot to shore. Good time to visit in AM as most people come for the sunset.
From there we continued on to the base of Mt Batu where we visited a Yoga center/retreat called Panra Dewi where we had a lunch stop... Grounds are quite lovely and very quiet. food is all organic.. K&I both had soups with bread (pumpkin and veggie).
Our next stop is the jumble temple, Pura Luhur Batku. We had visited this outstanding, very special, temple once before... Almost everything is covered in green moss.
From there we headed to a fabulous area of rice paddies, which recently has become protected by UNESCO. It is actually the waterway system that UNESCO is interested in..... Just beautiful. area is called Tabanan.
Long ride back to town... We had Putu drop us off at 6:45 at La Lucciola in Seminyak where we had a 7:00 res. Restaurant is situated right next to a beautiful beach, fabulous for sunset but we just missed it.
Two story open aire bamboo bldg.
After a drink in the bar, we were escorted to the front table on the second floor where we had a perfect view of the lawn leading to the dramatic sea front with pounding waves (marmot, you are right-- a great place)..
Dinner-- K&L split a zucchini flower app. , I had a delicious grilled scollop dish, P had an artichoke dish.
For mains: L had the seafood stew, K had a pork tenderloin rollup, P had an osso buccio dish, and I had a beef fillet. for dessert we ordered 2 tasting menus, each with 4 not so mini treats . Expensive, but delicious dinner and a wonderful experience to finish off our time in Bali.
fixed price van taxi (120,000) back to hotel. Huge traffic again.
Oct 1--- BANGKOK, here we come. breakfast as usual-- a really nice spread-- everything you could want. Not sad to leave the Stones-- hotel is a bit soulless, not at all Balinese and poorly located in horrible Kuta town. beach is directly across the street, although none of us ventured there. Would not endorse a stay here. This whole coast area is just too overrun... Seminyak is slightly less overrun but still too busy for us... Ubud is devine.
hired a van thru the business Ctr in the hotel for a ride to the airport (180,000 vs 280,000 for hotel car---perfect.). Easy checking at air Asia-- long wait for my wheelchair. Amazing turnaround once plane arrived and we left right on time. P&L in row 1, us in row 2 with a sour puss American woman sitting between us-- she never spoke a word to us. arrived in Bkk (don maung) right on time... Breeze thru formalities in diplomatic lane and into an SUV for ride to Anantara Riverside Hotel, our fav. 600B.
Main bldg and upriver bldg are closed for renovation so we are in downriver bldg. OK cause breakfast is now being served in this bldg.
Our friends Pat and Kathleen (sisters) arrived earlier on their Qatar flt from Boston via NYC.
All but Peter headed for the pool. FAB swim.
7PM res for dinner in Brio restaurant-- Italian. I had fungi and proshutto (sp) pizza, K had pasta, L and P had risottos. Yum... No desserts--- AMAZING.
Early to bed.
Today is a busy shopping day-- first up is Jim Thompson Outlet on soi 93, Sukhumvit.
Now on to breakfast..
Thks for reading along..

Nice day today... After a filling and excellent quality breakfast and delivery up the road of two bags of laundry, we headed out at 10 in two taxis. Destination, JT outlet on soi 93, Sukhumvit...
We looked at all 5 floors. fabrics were bought for: dresses, shirts (both male and female), blouse-- all to be made at JS Thai Silk in river city shopping Ctr. Also purchased were blouses, small silk bags, T shirts, napkins, hankies, a silk seat cushion, and some other things for sure. Each of us now has a duty free return to be made at the airport (new system-- must only purchase 2000 B ($60), and you can add on as you shop elsewhere using a magnetic card they give you)..
P&L headed to gallery cafe for massages near ROS and the rest of us headed to Sangtong Optical, 191 Chakrapong Rd, Pranakorn for glasses after a lunch on fl 5 at JT.
all the girls selected new glasses and P ordered 2 pair. Very reasonable.
an amazing ingle quick taxi ride back to the hotel. Some have gone for a swim.
Dinner tonight is at Harmonique where we will be joined by Ken and Jackie, also from HI. He is kerasake (sp). Wouldn't you think by now that I could spell that.

Isn't Lucy showing up at some point as well?
I have never been to what you are calljng Silom village. Is it a "mall" or is it a shopping "area" like Pratunam (across the busy street from Platinum)? I may have to take a look in December. I do like the Silom noon market, when office workers have time for lunch and some shopping.

Walk from the hotel out to the end of the driveway. Turn right and walk along the sidewalk ,cross over an alley where there is a sign for a church, walk a bit further and it is on the right a few doors past the alley. Price per piece... Very reasonable.. 2 day service. Not open till about 10 I think
Two big bags for 880 B.. They do light ironing too for an extra fee. We do not generally take white pants or shirts there.

Silom is quite small but i like it for a quick scout around and there are a couple of nice bag stores and a couple of nice "antique" shops too.
Must admit I am not a fan of Platinum, too busy and too full of "stuff" for my liking.......

Our dinner was so much fun tonight with 8 of us.
Meal: mixed apps... Crab yellow curry, sizzle plate large garlic shrimp, morning glory with garlic, fried fish filet, pork laab, asparagus with mushrooms, lemon chicken, steamed rice.
Harmonique continues to be a terrific low budget choice for good thai food. We sat in the a/c room as usual. Soi 34, new rd, near the river. Lots of wine and vodka, plus waters... 720B pp--$22. Lots of food left over too. Attn: LL.
tomorrow is a busy day with a visit to the seamstress, dim sum lunch, visit to the jeweler and Asiatique in the evening.

Silom Village is a short walk from the Holiday Inn. I check it out occasionally because the shops are always changing. This time I found a great shoe store called Pooshin, and I'm not usually into shoes. These are comfortable sandals made with real stones and beads. I just came home with 3 pair. There is also a nice silk store down the street toward Holiday Inn called Silk of Siam.

Just did a google search, and found that Silom Village has nothing to do with the noon market. Not at all the same. Will have to have a look at Silom Village in December! Looks very interesting.

Coming from the suk part of town the village is on the right side of the road. It is worth a visit. Two purse shops... Smeagol favors the 2nd one in from the street-- thai designers.
We will visit there tomorrow probably so will let you know what we find

All 6 of us had projects for the seamstress.... Most important were my brand new shorts where the crotch ripped out yesterday.. Stop took 1.5-2. Hours. All are very pleased with what is being made. Let's just say that we made penny's day with all these orders. business is very slow here. We were told that ROS only has 15% occupancy.
Next we headed in 2 taxis to the Conrad on wireless for a delicious dim sum lunch...K&I had 11 baskets and the bill was about 1500 B. ($45). FANTASTIC.
From there we headed to the jeweler in the nana hotel, soi4, sukhumvit. K brought a number of old pieces of gold which she never wears to be melted down, plus a very heavy gold bracelet she had made some years ago also to be melted. she brought a pic of a yurman bracelet she wants copied and hopes the gold surplus will pay for most of it...SO AM I... she also picked out a 6C citrone stone to BR mounted into a sterling pendant, like a gold one she saw in the shop. she has a heavy Indian sterling chain to mount it on. a good color for her.
We spent more time than we had expected. BTW, kathleen also designed a couple of things. The others had returned to the hotel after lunch.
One of the shop staff asked me to review her application for an American visa-- amazing at over 20 pages...
Taxi back to our hotel was slow, heavy traffic.. We took the highway. Got back at 6:30 just in time to board the 6:45 shuttle boat to Asiatique. We met ken and jackie there. Very enjoyable dinner for the 8 of us at Brasserie ( continental-- good but expensive). 3 had table side crepe Suzette's made for them... Really delicious and of course dramatic.
Took the anantara boat up to taskin and then back to the hotel-- great breeze and pretty lights.
Easy day tomorrow prior to a birthday party at a friend's house outside the city in the evening.
