Our flight started out less than pleasantly. we left the gate about 15 minutes late and taxied to the end of the access way and we sat waiting our turn... The lights blinked and then went out and the engines stopped as did the a/c. Great. It started up again partially and then stopped again. The flight attendants pulled the curtain closed. They eventually made a no sense announcement... Finally the captain came on and aside he expected some change in 5 minutes.... It was getting hotter... After 50 minutes the F/A passed out the horrible lunches with a small water. The capt. Came on again and said we would be on our way in 5 min. 15 min later he went to the toilet. Shortly after that we were air borne for the 1.25 hr flt to bkk. I was pleased when we landed.
we lucked out on the taxi and got a large one, SUV, so we decided to go directly to Anantara where we had left luggage. No problem and we went from there to the Hyatt where we would spend the night.
checking was smooth and I asked casually if they were offering any free upgrades and the rep smiled and changed our room assignment. We were in rm 2122, a fairly large corner suite...BINGO....
BTW, this was an award night for the annual renewal of my chase Hyatt card...
we relaxed for a while and then walked over to the Four Seasons where we had a 7PM res at K's fav Biscotti. We were seated near "the stream" in the floor. K started with her usual fav the soft shelled crab salad and then chose a chicken breast scallopini (sp) fried in butter with mashed pots and asparagus tips with a dark Madeira sauce and cippolina onions.... I had a tiny eggplant parmigiana with a lovely lite red sauce, followed by amazing raviolis with osso busco inside-- so rich and filling you can't believe it. K had a glass of white Italian and I had water, lots of it. we shared a rich warm rice pudding with unsweetened apricot sauce.
Unlike a few years ago, you cannot have a reasonable full meal here any longer for the $40-50 which I used to pay... Today it is full freight at $150., but comes with all the thai service and curtesy one might expect in a world class restaurant... We waddled back to the Hyatt.
Hyatt, best bed award for this trip.
For the first time on this trip we had an AM without an included breakfast. We bought some goodies from the Hyatt bakery and ate them in our room.
Friday, the 17th... Up and out before 10. Headed to river city for fittings and partial collections at both JS thai silk and next door at Sheraton where I ordered 2 very different, for me, shirts. They have double collars in different colors, fancy cuffs, some button holes vertical and some horizontal... One is a bold blue and white check and the other is pink with a blue stripe... I love them--$90 each---remember my size. JS also made me 2 shirts from JT fabrics. New Sheraton shop: Royal Mantique Tailor, ladies and men's, good English-- Burmese people.-- 2nd floor near bridge to river city.
K had 2 thin blouses made from JT fabric at JS... A wrap blouse from Bali ikat, a camp shirt with frog closures-- $400 including my 2 shirts... Also no longer cheap but all custom workmanship and 1 of a kind.... Boss lady said total that if K was 20+ years younger (I'll say 40) that she could be a top designer.
We taxied back to Hyatt and had a great lunch at you and mee in the hotel' lower lobby: Shanghaisse noodles with shrimp and veggies for me and a delicious northern thai curry with chicken and crispy noodles for K.
We relaxed in the room before our late check out at 2. We took a taxi around the block to the Renaissance where pat and kathleen will join us tonight about 10 after returning from Chaing Mai.
I am paying for a slightly larger corner room (3400 B) but I think I have been given a junior suite--- it is quite large and very comfortable and bright on the 16th floor.
We plan to have a light dinner in the club tonight.... K will scoff down some wine for sure and I may have a G&T or 2.
Tomorrow is another busy day with a trip to the jewelers, a return trip to JS for the girls, a visit to MBK (a 7 story knockoff and discount store) and lunch at either the JW marriott or room with a point of view at river city.
OMG, how could I forget, while at river city today K had a full oil body massage and I had a neck/shoulder and foot massage, each for 60 minutes-- total cost 800 B--- opening special... I think we need to go there tomorrow. 2nd fl opposite JS thai silk.

Good lunch at river city--- room with a point of view-- I had a delicious prawn pomelo salad-- yes I know about statins and grapefruit..
This followed a wonderful mani-pedi for me, a full oil massage for K and foot and shoulder massages for P&K-- all in 1690B. Peter, gotta love that place across from JS. I created my usual stir...
We all picked up our mostly finished garments at JS thai silk. All are fab. P added one more camp shirt with toggles from silk she bought in CM.
From there we all headed to Thai Stone Jewelry to pick up the finished goods. K's new bracelet is very nice, and she is pleased with it. Her pendant came out nicely also. K bought another sapphire for a friend and a new green garnet ring is being made for her. Her silver bracelet with 3 stones looks nice. They dipped it in white gold to give it a more glamorous look.
P bought 2 sapphires to take home. TSJ is such a nice bunch of people, we love giving our business to them.
The girls returned from chiang Mai about 10 last night... Had a decent time except Pat's camera was stolen, probably by their tuk tuk driver. This put a damper on their days in CM.
K&I had dinner in the club last night. good drinks and ample hors' to satisfy us.
Tonight we head back to L'OPERA for dinner.

Tuk Tuk drivers don't steal cameras.
Passengers leave them in the vehicle.
Lesson to be learned. All public hire vehicles have to be registered, and the details have to be on display for the protection of the punter, ie you or I.
Fail to take a note and suffer the consequences.

Thank you attorney LL... We do know the id of the driver and the tuk tuk and are dealing with it accordingly.
Are you suggesting that tuk tuk drivers never steal things...? BS, they are human.

I'm not accusing anyone of telling a lie, or treating it lightly. Did the driver physically steal the camera, or was it left behind by the passenger? If it was the latter, that still doesn't mean the driver scooped it up. The passenger could just as easily of mislaid it. I left my camera when I was at a temple in Ubud last week, but a local noticed, picked it up and chased after me.

L'OPERA--- such a good place for a meal... K&I shared 2 appetizers: a wonderful eggplant dish and a huge plate of Italian meats-- an antipasto really... For dessert we both had an almond millefroise (sp).
We had had drinks and some hors' in the club beforehand.
Sunday... The girls were all up at 6:15, had a quick breakfast and were off to the Weekend market. Luckily I was allowed to stay in bed and to escape the heat horrors of the market.
