mrwunrfl, I did manage to get a reservation at Yamamizuki on its website! I think, though not entirely sure, it includes both dinner and breakfast.

I booked under “package” and got a larger room that is no longer listed for my dates (Nov 1-3) but I assume the package includes both meals.

Getting there by car or bus?

Give a link for your accommodations for another date, please. Were you able to read the English descriptions of everything?

We’ll get there by bus. We won’t be driving.

I’ve chosen the bottom option “Two beds with 6 tatamis” and it clearly says dinner and breakfast in these dates. I don’t recall seeing “dinner and breakfast “ listed in my reservation but presumably it’s included because everything, including price, is the same. But I assume that having chosen the room under the “package” listings, I’m getting both meals.

Yes, it includes dinner and breakfast. Everywhere it says:
  • Breakfast and Dinner
  • IN15:00~17:00OUT11:00
Check-in 3 PM to 5 PM.

I was interested in seeing if you booked one of the options with the horse sashimi and "Special Horse Stab" which I assume is a steak. You didn't choose that. Horse sashimi is a Kumamoto specialty (I had it in Aso once, just a couple bits with a kaiseki meal). The Kumamoto beef I had at Miyama Sanso was great. Horse in Japanese sounds like "horsu".

You probably figured it out by now but here is the translation of the descriptions:

Introduction of package

|Introducing the plan|
This plan is recommended for those who want to spend a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of daily life in a quiet inn surrounded by trees, enjoying hot springs, meals, and seasonal scenery with all five senses.

・ In addition to the hot springs of this hotel, you can also take a bath in the open-air baths of the two sister buildings (Shinmeikan and Miyama Sanso) for free.
・Please
enjoy delicious original coffee.
・All rooms and facilities are equipped with "Plasma Clusters" to always try to create a clean space.

Each
indoor bath has a wide window where you can see the "forest scenery" of the four seasons. Please spend a relaxing time in an extraordinary space.

There are 3
large and small private baths. It is recommended for those who want to take a relaxing bath with their family or group.
* Available hours: Weekdays 14 o'clock to 20 o'clock / Fee not included

◆ Room / Facilities in the building (partial) ◆

Oh, and it says:

Enjoy the most popular ★ [classic] mountain mizugi! Standard Plan

Far as I can tell mizugi means swimsuit, which doesn't make sense. Another page said something about mountain "worms".

Here is a link for bus res:
Highway bus / night bus fro
m Kumamoto to Kumamoto Jul 2024|WILLER TRAVEL (willerexpress.com)

You can book two months in advance. For example for July 1 you would probably choose one of these buses
dep - arr
733 - 1020
833 - 1120
1213 - 1500
That is from Kumamoto Station.

If using the two earlier buses then expect they would pick you up at the stop and drop you at the TIC and take your luggage to the inn. Later, they pick you up there at 3PM to take you to check-in. Something like that. Maybe the email they sent explains it.

Thanks for the info. I did use Google translate but haven’t gotten as thorough as you’ve been with the info. I got a confirmation of my reservation but no email. I did write to ask about shuttle service and will hopefully get a response to that. There’s no rush, fortunately.
