Recommendations for trip to Japan for 2 young adults in June
My son, 21 and daughter,17, will be going to Japan for 2-3 weeks in June. While I suspect they will stay in hostiles or inexpensive hotels(any recommendations greatly appreciated) I was wondering if anyone could give my some advise as to where they should travel within Japan. Any recommendations on places to go, see and eat would also be great. They are planning their trip now and could really use some help.

The youth hostels are nice, safe places to stay, and they will meet other young people there.
they can also get help booking rooms in many of the train stations if they are traveling on the "fly".
Other than that, I would reccomend they get a good guide book. Lonely planet's books are geared toward younger, budget travelers. it is really hard to give ideas without know what they like. Temples, modern culture, clubbing, anime, architecture, traditional crafts, hiking, etc?

Icuy-
Thank you for your response. As far as their interests go; they are looking for cultural excursions, museums, temples and clubbing during the night time. Hiking would probably be of interest as well. If you have specific reccomnedations I would greatly appreciate it. More importantly, what parts of Japan should they go to in what order?

The Let's Go guidebook for Japan might also be useful. Website:
jnto.go.jp
japan-guide.com
gojapan.about.com
This site lists budget hotels, minshuku, People's Lodges (I think), and maybe hostels: www.itcj.or.jp
