Reading Suggestion for Burma
Although I'm only about half way through a new book by Vicki Constantine Croke entitled Elephant Company, I want to spread word of it for readers who are interested in either or both Burma and Asian elephants. It is the story of a young Englishman who goes out to Burma in the 1920s to work for a company harvesting teak in the northwestern part of the country near the Chinwin River. He becomes fascinated with elephants and stays for decades, apparently until the Japanese run him out in the early 1940s (I haven't gotten that far). The book is full of interesting information about Burma and elephants and reads like a novel. I personally don't care for the creative reconstruction of conversations and the heavy dose of anthropomorphism, but the book gets rave reviews. I plan to take it with me on Monday (Sept. 1) when I fly off to Burma in order to share it with other passengers on the Pandaw II. ZZ

It is probably too late now as you are on Pandaw and the chances of getting a decent WiFi to download books on your Kindle will be slim but I highly recommend these two:-

DH has nearly finished The Trouser People by Andrew Marshall, which I bought at Yangon airport when leaving. He's really enjoying it, and I will read it next.
SS, we took the Pandaw from Yangon in July 2013. The roving around the delta was very interesting, stopping in many small market towns where westerners are rarely seen. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic trip.

DH just read The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason, and I just read Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan. I am now reading Elephant Company by Croke, recommended above, and I am really enjoying it very much, (can't put it down)! I will add the titles mentioned above to our "suggested reading list" in preparation for our upcoming trip to Myanmar.
