Ratt
So we have booked Ratt for 1/2 a day (morning) in BKK (I sound like a true Fodorite now!). My question is, do we tip her afterwards? Not sure what is the common practice/how much etc.

I also tipped her but I don't know if she expects it. I also tipped her sister Poon and when I did she told me I had given her too much. I told her I had given her exactly what I had wanted to give her. When it comes to tipping in thailand, I give with my heart -- not my head.

Agree with the above comments. She was superb during our 3 days in December.
And, she has "radar". On 4 ocassions she dropped us off to find parking and, somehow, found us to help us find our way around. Most amazingly, she found us in the BKK weekend market...a needle-in-a-haystack feat. Then, helped us bargain with a couple of merchants, getting us very nice prices.
Gave her a significant tip and, no, she did not expect it.

Bob, tip? I think it unlikely. Remember, I've eaten dinner with him a number of times. Also, the Brad fiasco at the GTG.
Jacqui-everyone else tips at the end. This is also when you pay, so it's relatively smooth.

Jacqui - you got Ratt for just half a day? I thought I read a post that said she had like a 2 day minimum. Having been to Bangkok several times, we've seen all of the sights we're interested in except have never been to the floating market, which would be a half day, I think. Do you mind telling me how much she is charging for the half day?

well we took 1/2 a day b/c we don't want to overdo it (that'll be our 2nd full day in BKK after 17 hr flight), and sightseeing for 10hrs sounded kinda hectic. (we're returning to BKK 5 days later after visiting the beaches). I hope 1/2 a day will give us a suitable introduction and get some sights under our belts! She is charging us 1800 baht. She has drivers for 1500 baht, but we'd heard less than complimentary things about them so insisted on ratt only. I think she charges more for out of town..for extra gas or something..
