Preliminary planning - Sri Lanka+Singapore+Bangkok

Hi there! I'm planning my first trip to Asia and I'm current thinking about 3 nights in Sri Lanka, 3 in Singapore and 3 in Bangkok. But I'm worried I'm trying to fit too much in. Would I be best served to just hit 2 locations? If so, which in would you drop?

Sri Lanka is a whole country. Singapore and Bangkok are both cities. If you have 9-10 full days, you could visit 3 areas in Sri Lanka. Otherwise, I'd cross Sri Lanka off your list for this trip.

You could divide your trip between Singapore and Bangkok (and there are possible day trips from Bangkok).

Where will you be flying from? How much let lag will you have? How accustomed are you to very hot weather? These things will also have an impact on how much you can do/see in the time you have.

Three nights in Sri Lanka? No way! I'm sorry to sound so blunt but there's no way you'll see what the country has to offer in just two full days. Furthermore, it's no where near your other destinations - Asia is a big continent.

With nine nights in total, why not visit Singapore and Bangkok. Fly between the two places and book an open jaw ticket from where you reside to Singapore/Bangkok and back.

I agree with the others - if you've only got 9-10 days, either concentrate on SL [though 9-10 days is quite short time really to get to grips with it] or split your time between Singapore and Bangkok.

Tbh, if you only have 9 days, either pick a Sri Lanka vacation or a Singapore/Bangkok vacation. Sri Lanka deserves way more than 3 days. Bangkok is only one of the cities in Thailand and perhaps you could explore the possibility of exploring nearby cities too. 3 days in Singapore should be the perfect length for your 9 day vacation. If you're flying from somewhere close to Sri Lanka, then go ahead and have a stop at Sri Lanka. Otherwise, scrap the Sri Lanka plans and go to SEA or stick to Sri Lanka for the whole of your trip. Enjoy your trip!

Sri Lanka requires a visa, Singapore and Thailand do not. it's hardly worth getting a Sri Lanka visa for only 3 days. It's a 5-6 hour flight from Singapore or Bangkok.

I once spent 7 days of vacation just in Singapore and still didn't do everything.

I wouldn't say it's just completely impossible to be in Sri Lanka for 3 days. But I would thoroughly agree that 3 days in Singapore or Bangkok, as city visits, make sense. While 3 days in Sri Lanka is not the same at all. You start with that the airport isn't near either the capital of Colombo or the train onward. Then you have that the capital really isn't where anyone goes in Sri Lanka and that trains are slow and scenic, etc. Maybe with a private car you'd get to see a bit more, but it really is a sizeable island with lots of spread out stuff and nothing comparable to a 3 day city stop.
