I did go for a soak in Kumamoto-shi. It was a bus ride from the station. Typical.

I believe there is a night train to Beppu, an onsen town. Not sure where it starts, maybe Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, or Osaka.

Ltd Exp Fuji departs Tokyo at 18:03 arrives Beppu at 11:05 next day. Too early a departure for you.

Narita-Fukuoka flights are 17:45-19:55 for UA/ANA codeshare, 19:50-21:55 for JAL. The early morning Haneda-Fukuoka flights starts around 6:30 for both ANA and JAL. Recommend you get "J-class" seat that gives you a bit of seat width for additional JPY1000.
