Phuket - Chedi or Dusit Laguna

My wife and I are considering staying at either Chedi or Dusit Laguna for four nights at the end of November. We enjoy a mix of relaxing by the pool/beach and exploring the area and we plan on going to Ko Phi Phi for a day. We will be coming from staying three nights at the JW Marriott in Northern Phuket. Any insight you can provide on either hotel would be appreciated. Thank You.

I stayed at the Dusit Laguna a few years ago. It was nice but not that nice. I would not stay there again. The rooms seemed a bit worn and there is nothing around the hotel. Unless you want to do nothing (and there are much nicer hotels to do nothing at) or travel to get anywhere, I would choose a different hotel.

the dusit has recently been refurbished but did suffer a small amount of damage in the Tsunami.

To say there is nothing around is a little inaccurate. "The hotel is part of the laguna developement of 5 hotels. You have a wealth of sports facilities, restaurants and bars around. There is an inter hotel shuttle and you can charge things back ti your room in most (if not all) restaurants in the development..... but patong it ain't.

If you are already staying 3 nights at the JW Marriott perhaps a move to Dusit or Chedi still has you in roughly same northern area of the Island, perhaps a change to somewhere like Kata beach ( perhaps Mon tri's Bouthouse or the Kata Thani resort ) might be overall more interesting.
Try www.phuket-luxury-hotels.com and you can find those Kata beach places, Kata has lots of restaurants and some local shopping plus easy access to Patong if you want more shopping, night markets and some entertainment.
