passport visa ques.
I hold an American passport and have a visa for India. But both the passport and the visa will expire in Feb. 2017
I am just thinking of traveling to Delhi sometime in Oct. for about 7 days. So, I will still have a valid passport and visa for 4 more months.
I have read that passport should have 6 months before leaving the US.
Any advice on the matter.
Thanks for your help.

The US State Department just says the passport needs to be valid. The Indian embassy website says it needs to be valid for six months when applying for a visa. If the visa is still valid you should be able to get it transferred to a new passport.

Personally, I wouldn't chance it. I'd get a new passport now and get the visa transferred into the new one. There are plenty of countries that require 6 months validity on your passport in order to enter. India is one of them. While you have a valid visa, you passport won't have enough validity for you to enter India. You might not be allowed on the plane form the US, or you might be denied entry once you get to India. Either way, it would be a costly mistake.

You can travel with a new passport and the old passport with the Indian visa on it. There is no requirement to transfer the visa to the new passport. You have to present both the passports at the immigration counters.
