Panda Hotel Hong Kong

Can anyone tell me what this hotel is like? I realise it is in the New Territories but as I have visited Hong Kong many times the distance is not an issue. Has anybody stayed there? Also does anyone know whether the hotel has a shuttle or some transport from the airport or would one have to go into town first? Any advice regarding this place would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The area has little to offer most tourists. It's also at least 30 minutes from Central by MTR.

I stayed at the Panda Hotel for about five nights in February, 2005, as a faculty member associated with U/Pitt's Semester at Sea program. (We unexpectedly had to stay in HK hotels while our ship was repaired after being damaged on the North Pacific.) The rooms were sparcely furnished and were not clean. The location is abysmal. It is about a ten minute walk to the MTR through extremely conjested and confusing streets. I had no problem with the fact that it took thirty minutes to get to Kowloon and to the harbor, since I had little spare time, but the area around the hotel is not attractive. It is grim. There is a small, minimal McDonalds nearby that pleased the students and even I, who never in her life had before eaten at McDonalds, in desperation, got food there. The Japanese restaurant inside the hotel is pretty good, but all the other food was buffet style for our large group and really was difficult to judge. I cannot comment on transportation to the airport because we had chartered busses. All I know is that the distance was farther than I expected, considering that we were in the general vicinity. Don't stay at the Panda, if you can avoid it! ZZ
