Hoping planes, out and about in big cities and small towns, what did you use to carry your camera and treasures during the day?  I have discovered a website selling various backpacks, daypacks, locks, etc., products mad of super-dense canvas with a slash-proof steel wire lining.  www.pacsafe.com  Has anyone used their products? What size/model did you use? I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS which is not a large camera, but with other items that I will have with me and things I may pick up during the day, I want to be sure I have something large enough, yet secure enough to leave in a hotel room if I need to. Thank you.

I just used an over (and across) the shoulder purse, which was small and convenient. Every time we left important stuff in the room, we put it in our large suitcase and locked it with a small lock, just in case.

I bought a really neat messenger type bag from www.cocainemule.com

It has nothing to do w/ drugs but the bag can be carried cross the body and then the strap can be taken off and I can use it as a belt....w/ the extra packs for my camera, phone etc. IT IS REALLY COOL!!!! The web page will explain it all.

I used it on a short trip a couple of weeks ago and it was really super. The canvas is of a very high quality.

I use the day pack that came with my Eagle Creek convertible backpack. It has mesh pockets on the outside - I use one for my water bottle and one for my umbrella/sunshade. The only valuable I normally have (other than the stuff in my money belt and maybe one ring and necklace) is my camera. When I don't have it with me I just put it in a drawer. Well, I suppose there's also my back-up money belt - that stays in my locked backpack if my room doesn't have a safe (i.e. most of the time).

Pacsafe pieces are very heavy. I don't like them myself. I much prefer Eagle Creek's products.

I have used Pacsafe's Metrosafe on two overseas trips. I like this bag because the strap is adjustable for both around the waist or over the shoulder. It has a cable in the strap so it cannot be cut. The zipper can be clipped closed so it cannot be easily opened by someone trying to pick things out of the bag. It was not heavy at all. It worked well because it held my camera, glasses, wallet and a variety of other necessities (sun screen, cell phone) etc. For the price, it is a great bag.

I use a small bag with a shoulder strap that I paid $1 for in a Salvation Army thrift shop!

I have been using this bag for over 8 years. I did put in a nylon reinforced vinyl liner to make it more water proof and more durable. I also added a long zippered pocket to the inside and a smaller pocket on the outside!

Works for me! I put my small camera in it, spare batteries, sunglasses, TP, hand wipes, a language dictionary, note pad and pen, book to read when idle and anything I pick up browsing vendors and stores.

In Asia, for a real good cheap price you can have extra stuff sewn to your pack or bag if you want. (Stuff like extra pockets, zippers, D rings so you can lock pockets and velcro fasteners, etc.)

More likely you will have something stolen from your hotel room while you are out, by a fellow tourist staying in the hotel, than having your camera stolen while walking on a street!

I have a pac-safe tote bag that I used as my everyday bag. Its a great bag. Not too big. Side pocket for a water bottle. Very well made. I got it from sierratradingpost.com for $29 early this year. Its now $16. Just search for pac-safe.

I also like eagle creek and overland equipment. Check out the outlet on rei.com. I have a overland equipment donner bag which is great. It has a lot of small pockets to organize my stuff.
