Oriental vs. Peninsula?
What's the difference on quality from the Oriental to the Peninsula in Bangkok? Is it worth the price difference(which seems substantial) to stay on at the Oriental rather than move to the Peninsula after our busineess meeting ends?

This question gets posted, without fail, at least once a month? What's going on? Are these posters actually hotel people checking on people's reactions? To answer the question: I like the Oriental over the Peninsula because I'm a bit of a snob and I like nostalgia....

Hey Debbie -

I'd skip both! How about that for an answer.

Seriously, if you're already staying on the river for a few days, I'd try something inland a bit more for the other few days. The Regent is very nice and you should be able to get for about $150. The Westin is great too. Pool on the 59th floor and outside.

Lynn
T-125

Debbie -

I was just looking at my map while making plans for our trip and I happened to see the Royal Meridien. I forgot about it. It's very near to the Regent and down the street from the Siam area. Very central.

From what I can tell, they have two hotels. The president and the royal. You can tell by price which one is supposedly better!

Let us know what you end up doing!

Lynn
<BR

I stayed at the Regent last Christmas and found it to be quite a bargain. I think my package was something like US$99 inclusive of breakfast. The locals told me that whereas the Oriental is still the best place to stay, the Peninsula is new but on the wrong side of the river. Apparently it'd take at least an hour more to get to the airport from that side. For sightseeing you'd need to take the ferry across the river everyday as well.
