"3 in kyoto. Enough to see all the necessary in kyoto"

Funny. We've been going to Japan almost annually for about 35 years, and no matter how far we wander, about 1/3 of the trips involve a couple of days in or around Kyoto. I never get bored. There are so many great places to explore, and many of those places are totally different in each season!

We've been three times to Japan thus far, and did 5 nights in Kyoto on the first trip, 6 on the second trip and 7 on the last trip.

Same proportion for me, lcuy: about 2/3 of my (fewer) trips to Japan did not involve Kyoto.

I think it's a very good idea that you are thinking of going to Tokyo AND Kyoto because in my opinion, Kyoto was really worth going and I highly recommend it. Also, if you are going to Kyoto you might as well stop in Osaka as well since it is super close to Kyoto.

Some of the places that I recommend in Tokyo are the Sensoji Temple and if you go to Sensoji then the Skytree is pretty close to it. I would also recommend Meiji Jingu Shrine and this is super close to Harajuku Takeshita Doori and then Harajuku is also walking distance to Shibuya or one train stop away.

Also, I would highly recommend going to Shinjuku Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho. These two are very close to each other too. You can enjoy good food and drinks at these places. There is also shopping and a beautiful Japanese Garden called Shinjuku Gyoen.

And then in Kyoto I would definitely recommend going to Kiyomizu Dera, kinkakuji and Fushimi Inari Shrine. Kyoto was my absolute favorite place and I would definitely love to go back.

Last month I did 9 nights in Kyoto and wished that I had had more nights. But, I'm one to slow down and really absorb a place, relax, do some photography, people watch, take my time with meals, and not run around, just ticking off places to see. Plus, in that 9 nights, I had 4 different hotels and needed time to change hotels and recheck in. But, I did it that way to see which hotels I liked the best and for Summer 2018, have decided on only one of them for 7 nights straight.

Two days after I got home from Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo), I went on Expedia and along with the 7 nights in Kyoto, also booked 4 nights in Tokyo although I'll probably add either some nights to Tokyo or to Kyoto. Since I don't have a flight yet, I'll wait until Singapore Air sends out some flight sales and then work extra Kyoto and/or Tokyo nights and accommodations around whatever flight I end up booking.

Happy Travels!

Same here, there is still a TONNE in Kyoto we haven't seen including some of the "must see" sights.
