Oakwood Apartments in Tokyo

Does anybody have any experience with Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku or Oakwood Apartments Roppongi Central?

I am travelling on a triple date w/my sister, her husband and our parents. We've narrowed it down to:
a) 3 studios at Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku for $77/night/room. That sounds a little to good to be true, particularly for Shinjuku. I heard the rooms are pretty small and certain rooms are noisy. The few reviews have bene positive, though.
b) 2 one-bedroom apartments at Oakwood Apartments Roppongi Central for $145/night. This means that we'd put 3 people in each one-bedroom apartment. Heard nothing but glowing reviews, but I'm a little concerned about the red light district it seems to be located in.

Any thoughts? We're staying for 4 nights in late October. THANK YOU!

We've stayed in Roppongi when the Oakwood was called mansions at Roppongi. The neighborhood is clean, has lots of interesting restaurants, has a very convenient subway station, and there is a very high end hotel/mall/office complex.

While there may be nightclubs-especially on the upper floors of buildings- we didn't see anything that was even remotely offensive or scary to us or our teen daughters.

Our former exchange students visited us in the hotel and didn't express any concern about staying late either.

Thanks for the input, Icuy. The area nightclubs don't sound too bad at all, and I appreciate your feedback on this concern of mine. I was imagining a friend's description of Prague's red light district!!

Do you think that 3 people will fit comfortably in a one-bedroom apartment in the Roppongi location? Thanks.

The red light districts in Tokyo, as mentioned, are ok. They are nothing like Amsterdam or Bangkok. In fact, as a single woman, I walked around in Roppongi late at night alone and did not feel intimidated. In fact, I was not even aware that it was a bar/night club area. I did not see prostitutes in the street at all. Roppongi is an expat area and it probably does not give you the traditional Japanese feel. However, the prices of the Oakwood rooms seem very attractive. Did you get those quotes from the oakwood website? Are they inclusive of taxes and all surcharges?

The rates were actually at Orbitz. The catch is: no taxes are included. When I wrote to Orbitz to ask them, they wrote back the most unhelpful email ever that basically told me to call the hotel myself and ask. Too bad, because I really wanted something in writing. Just in case. Thanks for the info.

I've also been looking at the Roppongi one. I especially love the mondern decor and washer/dryers in the room! Here's another site with the same prices as Orbitz: http://www.asiatravel.com/japan/pega...i_central.html
On the booking page, it says "Taxes May Apply" so I can't tell either.

This site says that taxes are NOT included, but on the booking form it says "SALES INCL": http://www.hotel-rates.com/japan/tok...ppongi-ce.html

I think I'm now just as confused as you. Has anyone else booked there?
