Thanks, Welltraveledbrit. I'm sure he/she didn't mean anything by it. I have a lot of respect for Cicerone's opinions. Sometimes we all get to typing so fast...

No worries.

I don't think any of us meant you got "had" in any way. I also bought a box at one of the marble shops and still love it.

It's just at any high-end shop in India, the shop used to be an exclusive purveyor to the King of England, and just last week sold a ___________(table, Hermes scarf, carpet, necklace, sari, etc) to Richard Gere, Angelina & Brad, Chelsea Clinton, or such!

I think it is helpful to be aware of the various "sales techniques".

OK, I just started screaming when you mentioned seeing a mouse go across the floor in your train. I had someone DIE on my India train, but seeing a mouse is where I would have lost it!

I saw gigantic rats around the train station but nothing IN my train

OK, now I can go back to your report.

I liked your view of the Taj but I loved my cview much more from the Mughal Sheraton.

I got to see lots of non-defacating locals

I don't know whether or not you were "had" by the marble sellers. I fyou like what you got don't give the price another thought.

Glad you saw tigers, but you also restored my thoughts on Ranthambore in general.

I drank some tap water at the Hotel Clark Varanasi because it was 5 star and they SWORE to me they had their own great filtration system. I didn't get sick. At least not in Varanasi.

I never got called Sahib or any other great title. but I definitely would not want to be called Massa by anyone.

That's funny! 'Cause the mouse didn't upset us at all. But a dead body definitely would.

Yes, we love our marble table. No one in the states does that kind of work. In fact, few people do anything by hand these days. Again, I think these guys are not given enough credit. Even if the sales techniques are a little shady, the quality of the product can be amazing.

Sahib/Sahiba are just terms they use at Amanbagh. And I'm sure they do not translate to "Massa".

Thanks Ericka for the excellent report. I had already read it in Flyertalk and enjoyed it a lot, like your report some time ago on your stay in both Four Seasons in the Maldives.

I am sure that was a trip ALL of us here would like to be able to do in such luxury hotels, so can't see why the somewhat nasty comments.....You really don't get to see them in Flyertalk!!!

Looking forward to read about your next trip:- )
