near Great Wall - Accommodation
Hi all,
I will be travelling to China in April 2005 with my spouse plus a 4 year old and a 6 year old. We want to spend 1 or 2 nights near the Great Wall. Any suggestions re accommodation?
Tks,

Hi
I guess it depends on which section of the wall you want to focus on. The Badaling section is only located about an hour outside Beijing and from what I understand this is the most popular section amongst tourists. My wife and I went to Simatai which is located about 2 hours out of Beijing. We went there in March and there were not that many people there and it was a great experience
I have posted pictures and a trip report from our trip on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can find some useful information there.

As gard mentioned above, it depends on which section you are going. For some popular sections like Badaling, there are a few hotels around. But for some less popular sections like Simatai, I only saw a youth hostel near the entrance of the Great Wall. You can check http://www.hostels.com/en/availabili...telNumber.8955
In any case, only basic accomodation is available and don't expect too much.

The only one I can think of is the uber-fashionable and expensive Commune. Never been there, of course, but the website is impressive. May not be what you had in mind, though, especially with two young kids.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Commune looks intriguing but outside our budget by a long shot.
Has anyone stayed at the Red Capital Ranch? See: http://www.redcapitalclub.com.cn/ranch.html
