Great trip report. We have just come back from a trip to Yangon and Mandalay--saving the best till last--the Bagan balloon trip and Inle lake for next year.
We stayed at the Savoy (within walking distance of the Shwedagon Pagoda) and the Governor's Residence (in the embassy district) in Yangon. We really enjoyed both.
Your photos are really good.
Incidentally, I was brought up in Wells not far from Millfield School.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your operation.
Gill.

Gill,
Thank you for the compliment regarding my photo. I hope you'll have a great time in Inle and Bagan!
It was a long time ago that I was at school in Millfield, I think it was 1973 to 1978 - 30 years ago! How time fly eh?

H-thanks for the wonderful report. Myanmar is definitely on our list. The eraly 1970's is not such a long time ago.
I did note a Boston Red Sox hat in your pictures. Glad to see that the Old Towne Team has roots in all of Asia.

Gpanda,
Sorry but the "B" is for "Bruins" as in UCLA Bruins. Class of 83 only 20 + years ago this time!
Do go to Myanmar it's beautiful and it's probably one of the last places left without millions of tourist running over each other.

Thank you for posting your wonderful photographs, Hanuman. Seeing you and your family all bundled up truly drove home the cold conditions at Inle Lake! Thanks to you, I will be well prepared.
I hope you are fully recovered from your surgery by now and can just enjoy the memories of your fantastic trip to Myanmar.

Thanks for posting the pics. I see what you mean about Inle Lake being cold! I imagine my teeth would be chattering on the speed boats
I'm glad you were able to enjoy the lake in spite of the chill.
Love the pics of the novice monks inside that monastery with the round windows.

Whitepelican and Femi,
Inle was cold but from around 10 - 11 am onward the temperature was quite pleasant. By mid afternoon I only had on my long sleeve t-shirt and that was sufficient until dusk.
Nice to know that you all like my pictures so I'll try and add some more to the album this weekend.
