Mumbai for Anniversary
My husband & I will be in Mumbai on our anniversary, as a 2 day port stop on a cruise.
Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant for the occaision? We would prefer Indian food.
Also, does anyone know where the cruise terminal is located in relationship to the city. Should we pre-arrange a car or just grab a taxi into the city?

I think the boat docks fairly near South Mumbai but I'd check. Booking a car may just be a nicer way to go esp on your anniv - cars with drivers in India are cheap, for the entire evening will not be more than US$25 I'd reckon. The Indian food restaurant at the Taj Hotel Masala Kraft is good. A more seafood oriented hotel restaurant I LOVE is Konkan Cafe at the President - if you like seafood and coastal cuisine this is the place for you. In Colaba area a nice non hotel option is Koyla, outdoor seating, great food. You could follow up Koyla with a nightcap at the Taj hotel which is down the road.

I second Masala Karft at the Taj, excellent food and service. Also Olive in Bandra is a good option if you are staying at a hotel close by. It has been a few years since I last visited the President Hotel (the hotel is close tothe Oberoi Hote/Hilton hotel) I have heard from several friends living in Mumbai that the food is excellent. During our trip to Mumbai in Feb 2006, we ate at the Golden Dragon at the Taj and must say the food was not good. The other restaurants in South Bombay I would recommend are China Garden (In my opinion the best chinese rest in Mumbai located at the Crossroad shopping center) Sea Lounge at the Taj for afternoon tea and sandwiches, Khyber (indian food, the restaurant is within walking distance of the Taj Mahal Hotel, very good food, well priced) the Indian restaurant at the Oberoi is also good.
For shopping in Mumbai
Crossroads shopping center, Benzer, (breach candy); Melange(kemps Corner, western clothes made of Indian fabrics, high end) Ensemble, (same) Courtyard (high end, within walking distance of the Taj Mahal Hotel) the shopping center at the Oberoi/hilton hotel; Anokhi (hughes Road for Indian cushion covers, bed spread, etc. very good prices)

Unfortunately am not up to date with restuarants in Mumbai. But one I would definately recommend is the ''Delhi Durbar'' opposite Regal Cinema, near Taj, for their Biryani...the very best you will ever have. You can dine at the other restaurants recommended here, but also get a take away from Durbar to enjoy later.....while onboard.
