Yokohama 3 nights easy day trips to Kamakura and to Hakone. Maybe both same day. Better hotel prices in Y than T

I've discussed different itineraries with my friend and we've agreed to miss Hiroshima and concentrate on the Tokyo/ Kyoto/ Kanazawa areas. We've been thinking 3 days in Tokyo, 3 days in Kyoto and 3 days in the Kanazawa area and then back to Tokyo. We have one extra day and would like suggestions about where to add or extend. Thank you

Based on those three cities, I think the most logical thing is to add either a day to Tokyo or to Kyoto. As to which one, maybe you can start making a list of things you're interested in for each (including potential day trips) and see which city you'd most like to extend? (I'd personally lean toward Kyoto, but not sure of your interests.)

That tenth day could be for the “onsen experience”. I gave options depending on what that means (overnight, day trip, or part-day are possible)

Thank you every one who has contributed. Think I have the basic frame work figured out. Now I just have to work out the finer itineraries for each location. Should be fun. Looking forward to our trip.

One more question. I can see there have been mentions of the APA hotel in Kanazawa. Are there any other recommendations for hotels in the centre of the city?

We try to mix up western and Japanese hotels…if you’re okay with a western hotel in Kanazawa, we really enjoyed the Hyatt Centric. The hotel itself is quite nice, but it was mostly due to the location. It’s right outside the train station and that’s also where many of the buses depart from, including the tourist one that loops around the city. And the train station itself is pretty cool with shopping and places to eat. Right next to the Centric is a Hyatt House, so another option if you need laundry or a small kitchen at that point of your trip.

There have been a couple of mentions of APA hotels. Before deciding to stay there, you might want to acquaint yourselves with this
