Marco Polo revisited

While we're unable to travel to China, perhaps we may pass the time by considering another traveller who likely never went: Marco Polo. It's 25 years since the publication of Frances Wood's 'Did Marco Polo Go to China?', a question to which she firmly gave the answer, 'No'. The link below is to an interview with her about her arguments in South China Morning Post, but she says that nothing discovered or published since her book came out has changed her mind. Nonetheless, Polo is referred to in just about every China travel blog post or YouTube video, and even the Chinese tourism industry remains convinced that Polo 'discovered' China. Many Chinese towns eagerly claim to have received a visit from him, and travel guides and general histories regularly refer to him as historical fact.
