Mahaparinirvan Express India

Has anyone taken the Mahaparinirvan Express in India? It looks like an interesting week traveling through to Budhist towns and sites. What were the accomodations like and would you do the trip again?

My wife and I are going to India January-February for a 4-5 week period and thought this would be a great way to see part of India!

Also, does anyone know of any other possible tour trains lasting 5-7 days that are NOT the ultra expensive tours? Not my kind of budget nor my kind of people....Thanks,

www.indiarailtours.com/index.html lists all of the rail tours from the very expensive to the moderately priced.

We looked at the Buddhist train, but were talked out of it by people here who correctly pointed out that we wouldn't have more than a short glimpse of any of these fascinating places.

Thank you Kathie. I just looked at the web site and it has serious possibilities for us! Did you do anything with them? If so which and how was it?

No, after looking at a number of options, we did not go with them. Another time, perhaps.

PS We thought we might do one of these trips as part of a longer India trip, like you are planning. These train trips seem perfect for that. Please do report back on your trip.

On second look, most of the trips are the super luxurious ones. I'll keep looking though.
