Macau or Guangdong?

Hi. I will be in Guiyang and am debating whether or not I should go to Macau or Guangdong on my way to Hong Kong. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think you mean Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province. Guangzhou is a very large city that's kind of short on attractions. It does have really really good food and very reasonable price.

Macau can be visited from Hong Kong as a daytrip or overnight trip. You can get to Hong Kong first, and then to Macau. Up to you.

If I have to choose one, I'll take Macau. It has lots of decent but cheap hotels, Portugese-influenced cuisine and buildings. Also lots of casinos. It's totally not like Hong Kong or rest of China.

hi
if I had to choose one, I would also go for Macau for the same reasons.
In fact Guangzhou was not my cup of tea at all

I liked both. One is a big city, the other is 3 islands. What are you looking for?

Guangzhou is a large industrial Chinese city. It has little of special interest to the traveler other than a remarkable Han dynasty tomb in the center of the city and a nice garden with an island and a tea house where you can have a lovely cup of tea and buy unusual Chinese teas and superb Xinging teapots.

I very much enjoyed my stort stop in Macau. There are mant excellent and reasonably priced restaurants. We loved Ferdinand's. We took a public bus around the main island, visiting a number of Chinese temples and the ruins of the cathedral. If you are interested in gambling, there are many casinos.
