Hi,
If you are talking about the Good Will Guides, we have not used them in Japan. We did use one in Korea and had a great time with a 20 something young man who had traveled in the US and spoke perfect English. He had borrowed a friend's car so he could take us we to see what he though we would enjoy that was not easy to get to-we did.
We met a couple in Japan who had used their service in Kyoto and had a great experience with their guide also.

My wife and I contacted Good Samaritan Club Volunteer Tour Guide Service in Kyoto for our November trip. They assigned us a young lady who is a student at the university. She contacted us and we've emailed one another several times. She's full of ideas and suggestions for our itinerary and will meet us at our hotel, 9am for a full day of activities. Of course, we pay for her transportation and any meals involved.
