guenmai; still(hiccup) here. been busy dodging all these blasted roadblocks. since i got you on the line, and for all others, bob included, i am planning to stay in bkk chinatown on my next trip.
i know most rec. not staying in chinatown because of the congestion, however, like you, i would like to stay in different parts of bkk for the ease of exploration.
anyway, i'm thinking of staying at the grand china princess. i have seen pros and cons on this property. anybody got other recommendations?
btw, i have baited orgy7 a couple of times, but i guess he's too sharp to bite, or busy on his gourmet binge. .

kuranosuke, some friends have been going to bkk regularly for years and they recommended the Grand China Princess. I would probably be staying there at the end of next month if my priceline bid had not been accepted (got Holiday Inn).

mrwunrfl; i was thinking about priceline and gcp, but not sure how many stars that hotel rates, also unsure about location.(also, never used pl before, posters here have had alot of success).
if you don't mind, how did you bid, and how much did you end up paying for the hi. i saw on sawadee.com that the gcp was going for around $43 usd.
is the hi in chinatown?
ps. is joepa sticking around?

I messed up when I made that bid and was expecting it to be rejected. Turns out it was a fairly high bid, not much below the internet rate. The HI is a 4* and is not in Chinatown. For my last night in bkk, I bid $50 for a 4* and got the Marriott Resort & Spa. Wasn't looking for Chinatown.
The GCP looked like a pretty good location. I liked the fact that there is a river boat pier just a block or two away. Breakfast is said to be very good there.

Kuranosuke...Glad you didn't fall into a vat of Sake.I didn't want to have to throw in a life preserver and fish you out! So, you're almost off to BK...lucky you...I've only been away for 3 months and, as usual, am itching to go back. But I take off for Ghana in a few weeks. Thought I'd spend part of Dec/Jan there again like last year. I'll have to save BK for August probably...unless I can zip over and back before then. So, this hotel you are planning to stay at,in BK, I'll have to look into, too. I have never been over to China Town. I also like staying in different parts of cities...variety is the spice of life! So, I'll look it up on google. Take it easy, and don't forget to try Thanying in BK...although my favorite one is in Singapore. Happy Travels!

ok so none of you want to visit "my" marriott....for priceline make sure you study...www.biddingfortravel.com...they will help you if you request their 13 step procedure....watch the awards for a while and look at the record....the HI is a 3.5* in my opinion....it is well located at the base of silom road at the river end...

bob; i thought from what mrwunrfl said, he is staying at your place. to be honest, i think if i got a deal like he did, i would stay there also.
in fact, during my next trip, i hope to bid on your place, and hopefully be lucky.
i still plan to stay in chinatown, then perhaps a couple of days at the marriot for the river experience.
i gotta learn how this priceline thing works.
orgy7, if i get lucky, pls join me for a river experience.

orgy7; where you been hiding, man? yes, no more staying in prathunam. ingress and egress to the hotel was to harrowing for me. not mobile enough to dodge all the tuk-tuks, cabs, trucks, cars, bikes, hustlers, etc., especially those from behind. thinking about staying at the grand china princess in chinatown next time.
also, living it up is ok, because you gotta know what the other guys are doing. who knows what untold escapades bob has been through across the river. . btw, when are you going to ct to see ma and uncle bernie? jan?
guenmai; i live in a small two horse town in hi.
