We had only 2 days in KL. Visited Petronas towers, Batu Cave, Wandered the historic area, shopped at the central market and various other markets. It was actually enough time. Penang is 4 hours away by bus, or an airplane flight. i would definitely not attempt both cities in two days!

I agree, you can't really visit Penang in this amount of time. Save it for another trip.

At LCCT, jump on a plane to Penang, and give KL a miss. Georgetown is a great place to see Malays, Tamils, and Chinese inter-acting. Beer and street food in Chulia Street are wonderful. Stay at the Bayview, about 5 minute walk to the top (Penang Road) end of Chulia Street.
