Koto Kinabalu

Help needed please!
My family (2 adults and 2 kids age 11 and 6 will travel to Kota Kinabalu in mid July. Wondering what the weather will be like? Will stay in the Sutera Harbour Resort ( Megella Wing) as I heard it is closer to the airport. Does it have a nice beach too apart form the pools? Is it true there are a lot of jelly fish at the beach? Can we share the facilities with the Pacific Sutera and the Marina Club? If I just want to visit an island which one should I pick first? (Can they all go for scuba diving, banana boat rides etc)? Is it safe for a 11 year old go for White Water Rafting too? Any other good suggestions for the children should visit?

Thank you

Don't have any experience of the hotel you are visiting, but can tell you that during our visit to KK, staying at Shangri-La Rasa Ria the beach was off limits because of jelly fish. Very, very, beautiful beach....but we were not able to use it. There are jelly fish seasons in this area but I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly what times of year.
Sand Flies can also be a big problem.

11 year old and white water rafting??? When is that EVER safe?

Sorry, but there are loads of safe things for the kids to do in KK, just, not white water rafting if you want safe!!

White water rafting safety standard in Sabah is still low, compare to what I've seen in Australia and NZ. KK whitewraft is monopolised by Riverbug at Padas River. No matter where or which agent you inquire, everyone is funnelled to Riverbug. I have whitewraft with them and I'm peeved with the dodgy helmet and thin lifejacket provided. They also did not run though the standard "water confidence" training with beginners. So, use your discretion.

Thank you for your help. I think I will give the Water Rafting a miss. Any safe suggestions I really should not miss doing with the kids? My kids sometimes get seasick. Just wondering the sea usually gets rough if we go islands hopping?
Thanks again.

The weather can turn pretty quickly. I almost got stranded on an island as the boats won't leave if it turns rough.
