Which beach destinations to consider depends on what time of year you are traveling.
I assume you mean Koh Samui - a well developed island in the Gulf. If you do a search, you'll find hundreds of posts about Koh Samui.
Tell us more about when you are going and how much you want to spend. With eight days, I assume you know to choose not more than two destinations.

Thanks Kathie

I figured more than 2 would be rushed. Majority rules, I won the 4 days in Bangkok and had to give up Cm for a beach destination. I have searched, found somne info both here and on Trip Advisor but just wanted more feedback on whether it was a good choice and which beach to stay on. we are looking for hut type accomodations.

Ok, that is the right time of the year of Koh Samui. I'm not a Koh Samui expert, but there are others on the board who are. They will need to know what kind of beach area you want - busy or quiet, do you want walking distance to many dinner/drinks options (which means it will be a busier beach) or are you content to stay in one placeand have very limited food options. Do you want access to other kinds of activities? Also, flights to Koh Samui tend to be expensive, as Bangkok Air owns the airport, so there is no competition.
Other options would include Hua Hin - many kinds of accommodation available from the luxurious to the simple. You would take a car or a bus to Hua Hin from Bangkok, so there is some advantage to that in terms of both price and the amount of time it takes (usually under 3 hours).

in that case i would tend to stay away from the chanwang (sp) beach area...that is the patpong of samui....
we really liked the bophut area....we loved the peace resort....it has nice bungalows....we had a beach front one....the closer to the ocean the better...jamesA suggested this place to us and we really liked it....the small town of bophut is nearby and has a couple of good restaurants and bars...
huge pool, oceanside at peace...
there are other places in the area....we travelled the whole island and felt this was the best spot for us...
we also like HH....the hyatt there is fantastic!!

Thanks for the reply. The group is mainly in their 30's. The peace resort? Is that the name of the hotel? I'll google. I'll also look into hh is there much of difference between the 2 places. First time to Thailand so I am very confused if you couldn't already tell. LOl

If you and your friends don't mind renting bikes (motorized) during your visit, I would recommend Crystal Bay Resort. It is on its own beach. The resort has just been completely remodeled and is a great place for a group of friends to gather, because it is a small place and you "could" almost have the place to yourselves?? Give it a look.
