From Samui you can fly in 1 hr to Pattaya (U-Tapao) and then down to Trat and Koh Chang. If you are on a budget might be best to o/night in Pattaya and then you will be able to find the operators that run the mini-wans/buses along the coast to get you to Koh Chang, if you are not on a budget then get in touch with "Image Cars" of Pattaya and they will meet you off the Samui flight and drive you to the ferry point for Koh Chang, should be a couple of hours.
Otherwise fly Bangkok Airways Samui-Bangkok-Trat

We stayed at Barali Resort and it was just about perfect! We dove with The Wing dive center, the guy that owns it is also a pilot for Bangkok Air, and him and his wife both speak perfect english! We were there during the full moon so the current was very strong anf the vis wasnt that great, but there was some cool fish that we normally dont see here in the carribean and bahamas. most of the coral was bleached out. maybe my outlook on the diving was jaded because we had just got back from Belize 2 weeks before we dove in koh chang.
