King's birthday in Thailand
A good reason to be on the river Dec 5!
King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand is the world's longest-reigning monarch and is much loved and revered by the people of Thailand. His birthday falls on December 5, a national holiday in Thailand, and is usually celebrated with a number of events held around that date. As it is his 80th birthday this year, the celebration has been year-long, and will culminate with the Trooping of Colors, four days of fireworks in Bangkok, a concert at Sanam Luang, and a public audience on the grounds of the Grand Palace.
The Trooping of Colors will take place on December 2nd at the Royal Plaza. The Royal Guards, in their colorful regalia, swear allegiance to His Majesty during this magnificent display. Fireworks will be displayed for four days this year, starting at the Royal Turf Club (Phitsanulok Road) on December 4, and then in nine spots along the Chao Phraya River on December 5.
The King will make his public address on December 5 at 10.30 am from the balcony of Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall, located in the Grand Palace compound. Nearly one million Thais attended the public audience last year to catch a rare glimpse of their much-loved monarch and wish him well on his birthday.

The new color is definitely pink. I just got back. There has been a run on pink clothes and the government has had to weigh in around merchant price gouging.
I had a few pink shirts by coincidence and got a number of sincere compliments when wearing them.

Pink is the colour for one of our princess and the King happened to leave the hospital on a Tuesday which is her colour(the princess). There's definitely a run on pink shirts but now the King has wisely started to wear all the 7 different colours which represent each day of the week so that people don't amass any one colour.
Most people still wear yellow on Monday and a few wear pink on other days.
