Kashmir travel

Hello all my fodorian friends, I need help to travel Kashmir in India.we are planning to travel around 2nd week of March. Kashmir was my dad’s dream place. He always wanted to go to Kashmir which he Couldn’t go in his beautiful life. Now I want to go in memory of my dad.and we love love love mountains. We will be traveling with our son who is 8 yrs old. We have never been to northern India. I want to roam around each and every hidden gems of Kashmir. I also would like to know the routes, places, food and some shopping places. And of course where to stay. Pls pour in some ideas.

If you are serious, I seriously suggest going somewhere other than Kashmir at this time. Have you not been reading the news? Do you want to take your kid to occupied territory? A lot of other mountains to explore in that area, e.g. Ladakh.

Ohh,I thought everything is ok now.and Leh,Ladakh would be too cold around that time.

Last month, some restrictions lifted but "continued security risks" (read violent attacks) continue to be an issue. Having read email reports from a friend of a friend who lived there & left, though I'm no wimp, I wouldn't go & especially not with a child.

Thank you guys for letting me know very important info. I feel for Kashmir.aThe pain of the Kashmiri is going through.hope all is well soon.��
any other places you recommend to travel? We have been to Rajasthan so far in India.

That leaves a whole lot of India, not to mention other Himalayan areas in Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan. However, it might be a good time to go south - Kerala, Tamil Nadu, maybe Goa if you want beach time for the kid.
