Julie's Taxi

Does anyone have a phone number for Julie's Taxi in Bangkok? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

The number is 01-846-2014
That's the cell phone, I think, and of course it is the local #, without the country/city codes.
We've used Julie's taxi for the past two trips, we had Emma last year and Julie herself this year. We have been very happy with the service. Julie told us she prefers not to make arrangements very far in advance. But if you do speak to her, please send regards from Ivy and John

Gpanda, I used her this trip to go out to the Prasart. We called two days in advance to make the arrangements. We had Emma. One of the things I appreciated was that she didn't spend time wandering around to get to the hard to find places we'd chosen. She called ahead and got directions.

Thanks FromDC. Kathie-we're leaving on Friday. I'm spending all of my time beseeching the Weather Gods, so we won't run into snow in either Boston or Toronto (we're flying Air Canada. They the best fare by $500 per ticket). I suspect Bob is planning a military coup in Cambridge while I'm gone. It's funny you mention restaurants. In thinking about BKK, I'm torn between old favorites where I know how good the food is and venturing out to new ones. We may try some of those mentioned by R.W. Appel in the NYT article. A surfeit of possibilities. I thought I'd use a word that Bob would think was code.

Yes, thanks for the secret message.

If I had to recommend one special meal from our trip, it would be Peking Duck at China House.

Do provide reviews of any of Apple's recomendatons you try. I'll have a start a list of new places for our 2006 trip, already in the planning stage.

China House is on our list. Somehow we've never been there. I try not to plan down to the most minute detail. It provides the illusion of spontaneity. More code.

Have a terrific trip. I would HIGHLY recommend Pen Restaurant, written up by Johnnie Apple in the article you cited in the NYTimes. We had an amazing meal, ordering all the things he recommended plus a great oyster and egg dish. The dessert they brought us, asian pears with a small dish with sugar, salt and chili was unlike anything I have ever had and I will try to recreate it at home. The restaurant is not easy to find but definitely worth the trip - hope you get there.

Guenmai-Thanks. The report on the Aquarium was great. We may try to squeeze it in. We'll be at the ROS 12/25/05-12/29/05. I assume you're at the 4 Seasons.

Gpanda, Guenmai is staying at the Emporium Suites this time. She's checking out condos and serviced apartments.

Of course, I forget how mobile she is. An admirable trait which I lack.

Pen Restaurant is on:
2068/4 Chan Rd., Chongnonsee, Yannawa, Bangkok 10120. Tel:0-2287-2907, 0-2286-7061, 0-2286-3058; fax:0-2286-2344
This is directly from their card. From the map on the back it shows it is on the corner of Chan Rd and Narathiwat Rajnakarin Rd. From the map on the back, it shows that Sathorn Rd is parallel to Chan Rd, but I don't know if this is to scale or not. Our driver from the Oriental had a very hard time finding it and was on the phone with the restaurant two or three times. In any case, it is WORTH THE TRIP.
