Jimbaran is a fairly compact area. There are several resorts right on the beach, including the deluxe Four Seasons and the mid-range Intercontinental. The Ritz Carlton is on a cliff overlooking the sea.

The other and newer developments are on the nearby hillside and cliffs. This area is often called the Bukit. There are many, many villa developments at all price ranges. Few have direct beach access but most are within a few minutes drive. Villa rental right now is a buyers market. There is extreme over supply. Quality can vary widely so it's best to have a personal recommendation.

Jimbaran beach itself is a nice swimming beach with calm, clean water. Great for kids. It's a little rocky in places, though. The airport's at the far end which means a constant stream of takeoffs and landings. Also, there's been a fair amount of sand erosion in the past few years. Not such a good beach for walking.

The famous seafood restaurants on Jimbaran beach were, sadly, the location of the most recent terrorist bombing. Subsequently they and the resorts in the area are very, very quiet. Prices are very competitive.

Lunar New Year isn't much celebrated in Bali except that they get more visitors from Singapore and Hong Kong during that time. End January is still the rainy season, but the showers are intermittent and shouldn't affect your visit.

Jimbaran is not a great beach. If you are going to Bali for the beach try Sanur or Nusa Dua IMO. If you want to ahve a traditional villa stay experience, Seminyak has a bunch of charming ones. Bali is great all year round IMO! Villas range from US$50-500/night so your budget is the only call.

I was not really thrilled with the Jimbaran beach area, either. We stayed at the FS and the view across the way was the airport. I prefer something more secluded, which tends to be more east or north Bali, rather than south. However, it is a personal preference. You may like more hustle and bustle.
