Wow, thank you for the detailed reply Adastra2200! My final itinerary has changed quite a lot since my first post here and in the end I won’t be going to Kyoto or Nara, instead deciding to go to a few other places between Hiroshima and Himeji that are less known.
I have been looking into the Mazda Museum tour but it hasn’t really convinced me… I don’t care much for cars and I think I’d get bored after a while. But I agree that Daisho-in on Miyajima seems like a beautiful place, I’m really looking forward to my day on the island.
I was going to ask how long the Onomichi temple walk would take! I want to do it in the same day I visit Fukuyama Castle and museum as well as a couple of temples around there, but I think around lunch time I’ll be in Onomichi and I’ll have the rest of the day to do the temple walk without a rush. The next day is reserved for a bit of the Shimanami Kaido so I can visit Kosanji as you mentioned as well as Innoshima Castle
I’ve also added Bitchu-Takahashi and Yanai close to Iwakuni. Although I would love to add places like Akiyoshido Limestone Cave and Sandan-kyo I don’t have the budget to travel so far out of my way during this trip. I guess that’s a good excuse to come back to Chûgoku! Yamaguchi and Shimani/Tottori prefectures also have so much to offer, it’s a pity I don’t have more time
You’ve mentioned many places around and in Kyoto that I would love to go to also. I’ve added them to my list for a future Kyoto trip!
