Itinerary advice please
Hi All,
After a lot of research etc, Ive put together an itinerary for my 10 day trip to Cambodia - not much time I know, but thats all I can do for now!
Any suggestions or advice would be appreicated - I basically wanted to spend a good amount of time in Angkor, PP, and then IM trying to work out what to do in between. Ive heard good things about the boast trip from Siem Reap to Battambang, and also Bokor Hill Station. Ideally I'd like to fit in both but dont know if its possible. This itinerary includes both:
Day 1: (Arrive night before). Angkor
Day 2: Angkor
Day 3: Angkor
Day 4: Boat to Battambang, Battambang
Day 5: Bus to PP, PP
Day 6: PP
Day 7: PP
Day 8: Bus to Kampot, Kampot
Day 9: Bokor
Day 10: Bus to PP, Fly out that night
Is this realistic? Also, day 10 will be a public holiday - will it be difficult to get a bus on a public holiday?
Thanks in advance!

Don't know when you are going, but if it's not wet season, the boat to Battambang could take a very long time due to becoming stuck in shallows. It's also not known as being such a safe option...not that car is any safer. At any rate, I'd skip the boat and opt instead for taxi or bus, especially since you will have only that day there. It's my understanding that it is a very interesting town and the surrounding areas are beautiful and worth some days. I'm not sure it's worth all the effort for a 24 hour or less stay.
I might pick either Bokor or Kampot too, as I personally don't care for being on the move so much. But they aren't so far apart. Are you sure that you'll be able to get back to Phnom Penh in plenty of time for your flight...I really dislike travelling to my city of departure on the same day because there can always be unforeseen delays...flat tire, mud, delayed connecting flight, late bus....in Cambodia I'd feel better being in PP the day before. You could change your itinerary a bit to tray and get down to Kampot right from Siem Reap or Battambang in one long day so you then end your trip with a couple of days in Phnom Penh.

I did the boat trip to Battambang, and enjoyed it - I couldn't figure out how the boatman was navigating down narrow tree-lined channels that all looked the same. But, you do need to do it at the right time of year. It's a long bus trip from PP to Kompot, not sure I'd bother for just two nights. Bokor was interesting, but I'd spend longer in Battambang on this itinerary.

Let us know what period you are visiting. It makes a great difference in what you should do and how to travel. While I think PP is worth a short visit is there a reason you want to spend longer. While Battambang has some good sites outside the city I much perfer spending more time in the south or going up to Kratie to see the dolphins. Again this depends on the season.
